Windscreen bolts rubbing against front stay problem

Post by buzzawak »

I am up to doing some restoration on the front of the bike. Repaint the front stay and plastics, new lights and stuff.
On my bike the bolts that hold the windscreen are touching the front stay as well as the speedo cable coming out of the side on the gauge is rubbing against the stay.
I have included some picture below of the problem.

Would someone kindly provide some photos of their bike of how the widescreen bolts look and also the speedo cable?
This will help me work out what I have to bend and how much to get this back in the right place.

Thank you in advance.

I'm having trouble remembering which bike you have and exactly where this is rubbing...I no longer have my fzr.... but I do remember my windscreen bolts were small Allens bolts. Is your fairing stay in a bind or twisted or anything of that nature?

Chris.

The bike is the FZR4e00 3en2.
The stay looks straight but the underside of windscreen bolts, the 3 across the front are hitting stay. I am guessing there should be a bit of clearance.
The second picture the gauge cluster mounting seems out, here again the the threaded cap on the speedo cable is resting against the stay which again I guess should have a bit of clearance.

Hope some with a 400 could post the same pics of their bike so I could compare.

The nut and bolt are wrong.
it looks you've got a M6 (10mm spanner size) steel nut and bolt - they should be plastic M5 or 8mm spanner. You see the nut's rusted, it's because water gets onto the bolts travels down onto the nut, they can be a bastard to get off too. You can replace them with aftermarket alloy and well nuts (you get them in Halfords) or look for a pack of the plastic ones.

The sppedo cable can be a bit tricky, it's an aftermarket generic type. Take the top fairing off and use a couple of bolts to tag the clocks into place then see if you can get the cable to route differently - I can't remember if I found a way or not. If that's the only way it works then wrap the frame and cable with some foam rubber

Are those different clocks ?
The side view looks like 3EN1 ones.
The cable you have is a 1WG Genesis type.

Can you not take it off and swap it round;both ends are the same thread !

Hi Evil,
Not too worried about the nuts and bolts figured they aren't the original. Really want to get any idea on how much the stay is out of wack. Where the screen bolts should be sitting relative to the stay.
That way I can figure what needs bending. I thing this pic should the problem better.

They're the wrong clocks for a 3EN2, those are from a Genesis

Try again;
3en1.
Early 3HE used the same binnacle but tacho and speedo have different graduations.

This is a Genesis binnacle;2tk is the same.

The US Genesis 3BF ?? does not have the speed light.
They may even use the 3EN2/3tj binnacle.( unconfirmed)

Put up a few pics so it can be identified;

I think you have a 3EN1 with 3EN2 panels.
Has it a braced s/a.?
Are the clip ons under or above the top yoke.?
What dia fork stantions.?
Are the air intakes above or below the headlights.?

To which pic. do you refer.?
The last one was just to show instruments.It is of no use for stay identification as it is a modified 1WG genesis
frame with 3HE pattern fairings.

Oops - I thought the idiot lights were further over under the temp gauge but its been a while since I saw the 3en stuff
I do remember if you fit a double banjo bolt (for 2 line brake hoses ) it fouls on the rev counter.

Maybe a picture of the whole bike would help us. The 3en2 was a major undate over the 3en1 even the frame is (subtly) different

Did a bit of checking, its got to be a 3EN1 because it originally had the braced swing arm.

On a side note I have coming from the states the following;

[/url]

Been hunting for a reasonably price air/fuel controller and gauge and came across this one the other day.
Will do a write up on the install.
