Reelrazor swears by OEM plates. OEM springs are also better unless you've SERIOUSLY powered-up the engine; aftermarket "racing springs" will just make your left arm hurt.

This statement is false. EBC is the only company that specifically states not to use their kevlar clutch with a FULLY synthetic oil. However, many people have done so with no issues using quality brands of synthetic oil.

But for longevity the OEM plates and discs are your best bet.

I put a kevlar clutch from barnette in my xj600 last spring, ran full synthetic 10w40. The clutch would slip in the power band only if the motor was cold, thought it was really weird. Talked to the owner of my local shop, he said kevlar hates synthetic oils. I switched to conventional oil and after a few Weeks it went away. I wouldn't give advice on here without having personal experience in the matter.

I had an EBC Street Racer Kevlar clutch in my fzr and the thing slipped pretty bad in the power with Motul Synthetic. I recently put in the DP clutch setup and it's been great.

If there is excessive wear in the channels where the disks engage it would be a good idea. A repair manual will guide you through the inspection process.

If the price of a new basket makes your wallet throw up, you can extend the life a bit by carefully draw-filing the basket fingers to smooth out the grooves. Bear in mind that you ARE extending the life of an expired wearing part, and that the extra rattle-room caused by filing the fingers down will accelerate the wear rate, so start a penny jar for a replacement.

I have bought baskets from salvage shops before that were still in decent shape. Unless you clutch up lots of wheelies or there's a million miles on the clock your basket should be ok.
