I just like my pals to be safe,
The new tail material is probably a stock material size & therefore finding a snug fit tube to go over it may prove worrisome.
Might I suggest using two pieces of angle if that is the case and welding the two "L" s to make a snug sized box
You can buy angle that is too large and grind down the edges, note that the steel angle irons usually have a large radius on the inside of the angle which will interfere with the nice square edge of the seat unit, so you have to allow for that when measuring up
Do not ask me how I know this , lets just say you learn more by making "errors of Judgement"

Re: Project X
Today I jammed over to the local Ace Hardware to see if they had any steel flatbar and box tube... they did but it was a real limited selection. I found some flat bar for the rear tank mount but the box they had was too big or too small so Im gonna check out South Bay Metals... with any luck they'll have what I need.
I snapped a few more shots of the progress of the tail. Not a whole lot has happened just cutting and grinding more of the subframe to get it fit. Tomorrow Im gonna spend some time and finish cutting the lower rails off the fzr subframe and get the r6 subframe ready to be mounted. Obviously I gotta get that box tubing first. I really want to find a size box which the r6 frame can fit OVER that way it'll look WAYYYY cleaner.
Anyways heres a few pics:

This is the jig I made to bend the r6 subframe

Here the r6 subframe bent to match the fzr frame

Minus the fzr subframe

Front snapshot of what I had to remove from the front of the seat pan
Yo, has anyone used that vinyl spraypaint? My seat is all faded and I was just gonna blast it with some of that stuff.

Re: Project X
people just usually re-wrap the seat. you would have to die the vinyl I guess. not paint. vinyl stuff moves and stretched and paint would flake off.

Re: Project X
Today I cut and grinded more of the r6 subframe and got it to mate with the fzr frame pretty darn good. Now I gotta fine tune it a little and modify the undertray to fit between fzr frame rails up by the gas tank. I got the subframe seat and tail mocked up with zipties, nothings bolted down cuz Im checking alignment to make sure its all straight before its permanent.

Re: Project X
Nice going!
I have a suggestion before you hack up the undertray. I don't know if it's the top of the fzr subframe that is causing the issue or the bottom but if it's the bottom, just get rid of the fzr subframe where it starts to come past the back of the frame. You don't need it.

Some angle will support it all. Any force on it just pushes it towards the frame since the lever point would be the top rails. I've ridden two up on my setup a lot and have had no issues at all. Plus it'll clean up the look of the lower half. Just a thought.

Re: Project X
Nate,
Its the top of the FZR subframe thats giving me problems. The bottom FZR rails Im cutting off at the round tube. Im just not gonna waste time doing it on the silver frame so thats why the fzr lowers are still sticking out like that... the silver frame is getting brought to A&S Metals just how it is

Re: Project X
The REAL progress has started. I started working on the black frame. I chopped the subframe off as well as a bunch of other useless mounts and stuff. Im currently working on fitting the undertray. Its taking some time and Im gonna have to weld some new mounts but all in all its coming along pretty good. I tried to take a gang of pictures...

Re: Project X
The last pic is of the front tank mount. The tank itself lines up perfectly with the frame but for some reason that mount is off. Not sure what Im gonna do there yet...
