New guy with new(to me) bike

After taking 10 years off I got back on a bike. My last bike was a FZR600, a 93 odly enough. I had been wanting another bike for a while and ran across a cherry 93 FZR 1000 at a local dealer. All original graphics, paint and fairings. 27k miles and 2 owners. The last owner had it since 95. It needs a couple small items but other than the seat and pipe is all original.
I'm also lucky that I live 75 miles from the Gap and work 35 miles from it so I have the opportunity to hit the gap and mountains pretty much at will. This board doesnt seem particularly large but there are some very knowledgable people here that I may hit up from time to time for some info. That said, here she is. The tank bra is gone now btw. More pics to follow.

Nice set of wheels welcome back to the "fraternity" be aware your old skills will need to be honed on the 1K you may think you are still " sharp " but you will need to ride carefully until you are., any insurance company will tell you more "returners" get hurt /killed than noobs.

We have lost 2 guys this year we do NOT want any more.

As Darrin said we have been going just over a year and have 750 bods on the forum a lot lurk some are out spoken like me and we range in age from 18 - too me the eldest here at too damned near 63, we have back yard tinkerers to some damned fine brains in mechanics and electrics. We also have our own shops for getting stuff made by guys who take care of us.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I'm a pretty fair mechanic on vehicles, GM stuff mostly. I spent about 5 years working at a dealership as a tech before I went back active duty. I've got a decent collection of tools and a decent sized detached garage to play in that I'm just finishing up on now. 28' x 32' with a bonus room upstairs on half, the other half has 15' ceilings for a lift in the future.

One thing that I sure dont remember from my last bike is the torque. Being able to accelerate at 5k rpms is great. Gonna have to get used to that one. I have and race a 96 corvette in local autox events and the odd track day. I know I can drive the vette to 10/10ths of its potential but the bike is gonna take alot longer and truthfully I dont need or want to drive it at 10/10ths. About 8/10s would be good. I figure I'm at a 6 now, tops.

George, thanks for the words of wisdom. I'm a modest 38 years young and an official 'old guy' now. At least as far as my troops at work are concerned. I've been taking it easy and will continue to feel the bike out gradually. Its too exspensive and painful to have slip ups anymore.

As promised, here are some better pics. The price was $2500

well good to Know there is another Vet on the board, at least you got to be 38 before the cherries called you Pops I was 25 I look at a picture from then and when I retired and the Kids were right in all honesty I looked older than my years for sure.

I first spent 6 years in the Navy toiling in an engineroom. After a substantial break in service I went back into the Air Guard. That wasnt quite enough for me so I ended up in the Air Force as military police. FWIW, our unit participated in a 26.2 mile ruck march in April(35lb rucksack). I was able to stay with and smoke quite a few cherries. THAT made my day.
