From the quick look I just took at both wiring diagrams for the YZF and the FZR it looks as if the YZFs can at least be wired in. Whether they will actually fit is a different story...

I think they both work. I don't believe the 400s had the same output if IIRC.
I may have a set of YZFs... I'll check later this evening.

Re: will fzr400 coils work on the fzr600?
i asked about the 400 coils because finch has a set he can hook me up with and id like to see if they would even work before he sent them over

Re: will fzr400 coils work on the fzr600?
They probably would work but they aren't plug and play (you'd still have to wire them in) and I would suspect the spark signal would be weaker than the 600 ones. The YZF's may have a stronger signal than the fzr and could probably give a performance boost.shredex wrote:i asked about the 400 coils because finch has a set he can hook me up with and id like to see if they would even work before he sent them over

Re: will fzr400 coils work on the fzr600?
I don't know alot about ignitions, but doesn't it take about the same amount of power to throw a spark over a gap no matter what? So in theory if the FZR400 and FZR600 had the sam stock gap in their plugs, the 400 coils would be powerful enough to throw a spark for the 600?sweekster wrote:They probably would work but they aren't plug and play (you'd still have to wire them in) and I would suspect the spark signal would be weaker than the 600 ones. Also, anyone know what the primary and secondary resistances are for the stock FZR400 coils? If I send these to Shred, I want to make sure they're useable first.

thats for the fzr600...is the fzr400 the same?

Since I copied them from the 400 manual, I'm going to assume so...shredex wrote:DonTZ125 wrote:Primary: 1.8-2.2 Ohms @ 20C / 68F

Re: will fzr400 coils work on the fzr600?
that means there the same
we should find the specs on the yzf coils to find out if it produces a bigger spark...then we wont have to search down ford coils and have to have pods do to space problems...just for future reference

Thanks Don. Headed out to check the spare 400 coils in the shop....after I get done playing with suspension bearings.DonTZ125 wrote:Primary: 1.8-2.2 Ohms @ 20C / 68F

The 400 coils are functionally the same, mount the same too if I am not mistaken. I'd put 'em on.

Re: will fzr400 coils work on the fzr600?
I checked and they're within spec. As far as mounting, the 400 coils I have are individually mounted, one on each side of the "engine bay". However, they have the bolt go through the top like the 600 so you should be able to pull them off of the stock mounts and bolt them to a FZR600 mount and mount them right in.
