Idle Question

Post by dans96fzr600 »

I am fixing all the small problems with the FZR I just bought and I think the idle maybe a tad on the high side. Mine idles around 1k-1.5k when warm. What does your guys bikes idle at when fully warmed up and off the choke?
Thanks for the info,
Dan

I'd say you're in the hunt. Idle accoring to Clymer's is 1,150 - 1,250 unless you have a Cali then add 100 revs to each end.

Thanks for that info! I think mine might just sound a little high because the D&D pipe I have is so loud that it makes me think it has to be too high at idle

Dan,
Thats fine, you will find that the FZR hates below 1K and will not pull cleanly, you are correct that with a loudish pipe it sounds as though it's a couple of C's over revving.
Better to listen for a steady beat rather than the noise as such, and that when pulling off and returning to idle it is clean no stumbling.

Thanks for the info I really think its the pipe playing tricks on me like I said. Because its just as you described it pulls super super clean. And when it returns to idle its always rock solid and doesnt surge or any thing.
