Need some measurements if anyone can help. R6/R1 stuff

Post by thatkid »

I'm wondering if anyone can measure the axle dia. of the R6/R1 axle and the width between the sides of the swingarm. If someone can measure the distance between sides when it's unclamped that would be awesome. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Oh also, the height at the end of the swingarm.

I have the spare swing arm but I dont have any calipers of any type to measure anything.

A tape measure would work for all the measurements. Inside edge to Inside edge for the swingarm should be easy. The height at the back of the swingarm should be cake too. The axle, if you can wrap paper, wire, something that doesn't stretch around the axle until it touches itself then just measure that length. Then I can use those awesome geometry skills I learned to get the diameter.

I think for most of those you wouldn't have to take the bike apart. Doesn't some of the axle bolt stick through the nut? The height could be measured on the bike and the tightened distance between sides could be measured and I could compare that to 95's measurement for untightened.

I appreciate it guys.

Kid,

NOt sure if you got these yet..

external shot of the axle connection.. (can't measure this)

Shot from the back side

Just so you can see the point i measured..

And the actual measurement.. 4.5 inch (circumference)

Does this work?

So that would make the axle 1.43" in Dia. I mean that sounds about right. Close enough for right now though for what I'm doing. Thanks man. I can slowly continue on with one part of the design phase!

1.4324 :) had to look up how to do that :) You also needed height...from the floor to the center of the axle?

Yeah, I mean the axle shouldn't change diameter anywhere along the line so it should be fine. If you can measure the end of the axle there at the nut for just a double check that would be sweet. As far as the height, I'm looking for the height of the swingarm where the sliders are for the axle. So like, on the FZR where the end caps would go for the axle adjusters. The end of the swingarm there is 2.3" tall or something like that. Wondering what it is on the R6/R1 swingarm. That first picture you posted shows the part I'm looking to have measured.

George, I have no idea what it should be. I know the rear R6/R1 should be a pretty beefy axle since the front R1 axle is an inch if not a tad bigger. Still, I have nothing to measure myself so I don't know.

TK,
I decided to reverse engineer the rear axle for an R1 (98-04) via the wheel bearings for the rear they are 25mm id 52 o/d & 15mm wide

see:-
http://www.gear4bikes.com/acatalog/Yama ... ings1.html
so the rear axle is 25mm diam unless there is a bigger step in it which I have only seen in the front axle of a ducati and that was only 2mm @ the "bolt" end.
