2nd GEAR POPPING OUT
i was looking at some motors and i read this "" MOTOR RUNS GREAT IT HAS A PROBBLEM IN THE TRANS IT FALLS OUT OF 2ND GEAR OUTHER THEN THAT IT RUNS GOOD ALL OUTHER GEARS ARE FINE
Now ive owned my fzr for 6 yrs ive never noticed it .. but i was looking at a newer motors just in case mine decides to take a crap .. what causes this to happen and how much work and money would be involved in fixing this problem . thanX BTW i need this info ASAP

The dogs are worn out. These are the tabs that connect a sliding gear to a fixed gear. 2nd gear is the one most prone to wear because people wind-up first gear then miss the shift and you slowly wear the dogs down until they dont engage or disengage...You need to split the cases to do any trans work....I would move on unless its a super cheap deal $200 max!!!!

I've always been told that popping out of second is a good sign that the motor has been raced or stunted; as such there is probably more sh!t going bad than just 2nd.
How much truth there is to that I don't know.

not really tons
some people just dont know how to shift
everyone misses the 1-2 shift on occasion
the FP shift kit will help

Its not a bad problem to fix. We have done a couple in class but splitting the cases and all those parts have to put back together.

Like haunter said, get the Factory Pro shift kit. It was one of the best upgrades i ever did for my fzr. Not saying it will cure a full blown problem, but i used to miss 1-2 alot. The FP kit really cut down on that.

i think he means cogs. dogs=cogs.

+1 on the good link, i didn't have a clue how a bike tranny worked. before it was the scary thing hanging off the arse-end of my motor.
