DogBones

Dogbones raise or lower the rear of the bike. Raising the rear improves the speed and ease of turn in and braking as more weight is pushed towards the front end. I have always made mine out of 6061 T6 because it is inexpensive and strong enough. If you can get it, go with 7075 T6. It is about three times as much but is almost double the strength rating. 2024 has about a 7k lb higher rating than 6061 but isn't as easy to come by and doesn't weld very well. Not that there will be welding of Dogbones but…who knows. Make them .25“ thick and then standard dimensions after that. To lower the rear end you would want longer Dogbones.

The figures below give an idea of the strength ratings of aircraft grade aluminum. Keep in mind, any of these aluminums need to be a T6 for strength. A 6061 0 will not be anywhere near as strong as a 6061 T6. All material data can be found online at http://www.matweb.com

FZR400/600: To raise the tail about 1.5”-2“ I go with a 5”(127mm) center on center. The Stock length is 5.8“ center on center. A 1mm shorter bones will yield about 2.4mm raise on average.

FZR1000(89-95, maybe 87-88 1k and 750R's): To raise the tail ~1.5” go to 158mm dogbones, for ~2“(for aggressive street or track riding) go to 155mm dogbones.
