Write up for a YZF600 engine swap into FZR600?

Post by nick5446 »

Has anyone created the end-all, be-all write for the YZF engine swap into the FZR? I'm new to the forum and am trying to get up to speed on this common modification.

And for what it's worth, I tried searching, but the words "engine", "swap", "fzr", "yzf" and "fzr600" were ignored because they're too common :duh:

I'm almost positive it's a straight bolt in? The cooling is slightly different so you might need different radiator hoses. The carbs are bigger, so you'll need to modify the airbox if you plan to use them. And you're probably better off just modifying the YZF wiring harness to work with the FZR frame, but the engine mounting is the same.

Yeah that's what I've gathered. I picked up a '90 FZR with an '01 YZF motor "in" it. Basically it was someone's project that they never finished. It looks like it's essentially done, but it ain't runnin', so I have to start diagnosing it. I figured a proper writeup of how to do the swap would be a good place to start.
