Ohh, Yes, he did...660 the easy(?) way
Some of y'all have seen my post at the other site, but I got to looking, and measuring and consulting with machinists, and.....
Yes, those ARE 4TV (YZF) pistons on 3he(FZR) rods.
And the same deck height (no change in rod length and same pin to crown height= no need for spacer)...
I know I'll get flamed about how the rods can't take it, the compression will be too high etc....
I betting on it working out.
In any case I'll be the guinea pig...should be back in the bike this weekend.

Any decent automotive machine shop will have a rod hone.
The one I used uses a rod hone that indexes off the big end so that the small end is perfectly aligned with it. And 'reads' the pin for sizing. They need to take approximatley .018" out radially to fit the YZF pins.

Re: Ohh, Yes, he did...660 the easy(?) way
The most important thing hasn't been mentioned.
NO spacer = the cam chain won't be over stressed (too tight) the chain tensioner will survive, and NOOOOOO damn adjustable cam gears needed.
The very best of luck, don't think you'll need it though.

You can lead a THIRSTY horse to water, you cant make the THIRSTY horse drink, if it don't drink shoot it.
Re: Ohh, Yes, he did...660 the easy(?) way
yep shouldn't need adjustable cam gears, however the other two points are completely wrong. The cam chain is still loose when you use a base gasket for the 660 install and the tensioner will still apply the same force to the cam chain after being reset (mine went in a bunch of clicks after doing the 660 install and being reset). Could you show me an example of one not surviving using a base gasket?ramster wrote: NO spacer = the cam chain won't be over stressed (too tight) the chain tensioner will survive, and NOOOOOO damn adjustable cam gears needed.
fzr660/400: fzr400 3en1 frame, 3en2 swinger, custom single seat subframe, fzr660 motor conversion, APE adjustable cam gears, full D&D 4-2-1 exhaust, falicon clutch basket, ignitech ignition, R6 front end with tz250 wheel, ohlins shock, storz steering damper, tzr250 rear wheel.
weighs 166kg wet (25kg lighter than my stock fzr600).

Re: Ohh, Yes, he did...660 the easy(?) way
(S)he might have meant the chain getting near the end of its life without you noticing (i.e. the tensioner wouldn't be maxed out, and you wouldn't notice the chain rattling around)... but even that sounds like a bit of a stretch.dru86 wrote:yep shouldn't need adjustable cam gears, however the other two points are completely wrong. +1 on the cam gears. Adjustable or not, even getting those things on/off is a PITA.
Re: Ohh, Yes, he did...660 the easy(?) way(It RUNS!)
Okay....
It's a runner.
It's not real happy with the jetting....that has yet to be worked out.
Comes off the bottom hard, hates steady state cruise and cleans up on wide open butterflies between 6500 and about 9k...then falls flat
Got the jet kit but no more time today.
I'll go up two steps on the mains, put the FP needles in and about halfway up and see what she does then................

Re: Ohh, Yes, he did...660 the easy(?) way
I've done three 10-15 miles jetting/break-in runs.
Got it running decent enough to take out for real today (still a couple transitional flat spots to deal with).
Hot as hell (mid 90°'s) I did a 120 mile loop-broken into four segments.
NO detonation on mid grade (89octane) which is pretty impressive at 13.2:1.
Temp gauge runs a third of the way up-actually a smidge lower than before(maybe just the new coolant)...no knocks, bangs or clanks.
