Shogun hooked me up with the manual :notworthy:

Since the horn barely works that means i'm still good...plus the signals do work.

So what have we narrowed it down to and why would one of the boxes make a click?

I haven't really looked into the fuel system electronics on my FZR1000 but, mine clicks for a few seconds when I flip on the power. I always assumed it was just doing it's thing to prime up the fuel. I wait for it to stop before I crank, my Piper Cherokee does the same thing so I never had a second thought about it. Fluff

the fuel pump should click to say its running.

the relay may click when you turn on power, or the starter solenoid could as well.

Its been so long since one of them didnt work that I can't recall what will and won't make noise...of course thats easyish for me to check

we know the ground seems to be fine.......and that maybe the power wire from the relay is bad, or the relay itself is fubar'd

alright...so i can check over those and replace if needed but could it be the actual fuel pump itself?

and the next issue is that my headlights don't come on -is there a direct fuse for those?

it could be the pump..........no great way to check beyond checking the voltage at teh plug that the pump plugs into. if its getting voltage then its probably the pump.

most pumps from a carb'd biek will work.

there is a fuse for the headlights, I dont recall which one it is offhand, but its in the fuse block on the lefthand side of the bike. I thnk the fuse labeld HEAD is for the whole front end of the bike, gaugues headlights etc

also try pulling on and jiggling the start button to get em to turn on.

its almost like I've had to do this before.......... :whistle

also, for some reason, if my tank was low the pump wouldnt pull any gas or start up........and if the battery was low at all it wouldnt fire up the fuel pump.....but that battery was finicky

I'll look into all of this today

I assume that the FZR has a low fuel light somewhere? I see a sender on the bottom of my gas tank (unfortunately broken)

Yeah, not so much at least not on the 88-87. Looking at the wiring diagram I would say no on the 90 model as well....You just have to listen and feel it....One day you will be on the highway blazing a trail when you can't twist the throttle any further and you seem to be slowing down, and the engine chugs. That my friend is the low fuel light, you will need to reach down and switch over to the reserve tank, and pray there is a gas station within 10-15 miles.

the petcock is electronic on these....does the wiring go to the switch?

it could have wiring for a light and no light

some models have them, I know 94's do

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that is your fuel reserve switch. I say that because on the wiring diagrams I see a switch on the 89-90 & 91-93 where as on the 87-88 there isn't, wich is true, because mine is a manual petcock mechanisim. I don't however see a bulb listed for your reserve light.....

the gauges dim when switched from off to run

the click comes from the 3rd from the left box

even with a jumpstarter the bike has a very weak start

Do you have a voltmeter?

A bad battery can cause alot of problems with these bikes. is the tail light weak too?

If could check the voltage on the battery that would be great.

You can get a new battery at walmart for 40 bucks that would be ready the morning after you got it, a few hours to charge and a few hours to let it sit.
