1991 fairing on a 1990

Post by Verbatim »

Hello everyone,

Have been thinking about getting an early FZR 600 for a while.

I had a question how easy is it to put a 1991 front fairing and headlight on an earlier 1990 bike?

So from this

To this 1991 type

I also notice some 1991 types have either a twin or single headlight behind the fairing? I'd like the twin setup as in the photo above..

Reason I ask is I have spotted a nice 1990 model but I'd like to swap the front fairing to the image below.

Hopefully you guys can help or let me know if its worth the effort. Thanks

It's easy, but you need a lot of parts. Off the top of my head you will need the headlight, the fairing, the fairing stay and the windscreen. You will also need the ram air tubes if you plan on using them, or you can leave them off.

Well I may buy the bike I'm looking at and then find a cheap donor to get the fairings painted and then parts swapped over or something. Wondering if I can find the original decals just like the bike above anywhere.

No, not in stock. But you can have them made.

Got a link to where you would have that done?

I did that conversion myself. Although I modified it quite a bit. I was looking for the Honda NR750 look and put Piaa projector beam lights in the vent holes, fiberglassed over the stock headlight hole and rerouted the vents to below where the headlight used to be. Lots of work, but I was pleased with the results.
