Ok. I understand the stator has zero to do with the spark. But the pick up does. Im not a total idiot. I was a ASE certified mechanic and a suzuki/kawasaki certified tech for many years. I am curently a cnc machinist/cnc programmer and foreman if a machine shop. I became a machinist so i could fab my own hot rod parts. I have built MANY a bike, car, truck 4wheeler jet ski etc... U say i have a "tci vrs. A cdi". My box says different. Not opposed to different thoughts ir things but i know what i have. Yes i am more a mechanical guy. Electrical i dont get. Sooo What readings should i have?
Thanks,brian

Dude, I am not knocking you..

but, we had guys referring you to the VRR test ..which will do NOTHING towards diagnosing an ignition failure.

You don't really need a certain value at the pickup sensor test at least using the resistance method I explained..you just need the swing of the needle/change in readout. This tells you the pickup is working.

Don's link details everything..go check it. viewtopic.php?f=43&t=9136

I was Yamaha/Suzuki tech for years, BMW and all brand cars (ASE)for a while...I alos program CNC machines now(structural steel-beam punch/saw/cope lines)..it's where the money is right now. But, almost always worked wrenches on the flat rate..I cannot fathom how any money could be made if electrical wasn't as strong as mechanical. If more than twenty minutes was spent (correctly) diagnosing this problem of yours, the tech would be underwater already.

There is not one Yamaha FZR model that has a CDI ignition-from '88-2002. What your box should say is "Digital Ignitor" If your replacement ignition box says "CDI" then that IS your problem. The TCI is inductive spark, a CDI is triggered spark and everything up and dowstream for one is incompatible with the other system

Ok first i would like to apoligize to you. My reactions were totally un called for. Frustration had the better of me ,but im man enough to admit where i was wrong. You were only trying to clarify and help me. And you are correct my box does say digital ignitor. I was givin the wrong info elsewhere. Also nice to meet a fellow programmer as i program 2 axis lathes,4 axis lathes w/live tooling and 3,4,5 axis mills. I did figure out tho that my pick up in the flywheel? Was fried. Once again please accept my apoligies.
Thanks,brian
