help needed. hit a road block.

Post by tclayton9 »

I'm in the process of getting stuff ready for paint. My rear axle is either seized or bent. u lubed it up and beat the hell out of it with hammers, pipes, and anything that was solid and heavy. it only moved enough for the axle to dissapper on one side of the swingarm. I don't know what else to do and the shop wanna charge 70 dollars an hour.

also I'm doing my fork seals. I got the snap rings out and I loosed the bolt counter clockwise at the bottom of the fork and it still isnt coming apart. what am I doing wrong.

This should be all you need to know regarding replacing fork seals. http://www.fzrarchives.com/ipb/index.ph ... opic=22544

As far as the rear axle is concerned try keeping your rear wheel as straight as you can while trying to remove it. There really isn't anything magical back there. Wish I had a better answer here.

If you need that much force to remove your rear axle, you are doing something wrong. As mentioned, try taking the weight off of the axle.

Although the bolt may be turning on the bottom of your forks, the damper rod on the inside is probably also turning. Make sure the damper rod is removed. The link provided is a good one.

When I separated the upper and lower forks (tube and slider) I put the front axle through the fork lower, then sat on the ground with my feet on the axle and the slider (chrome tube) in my hands and pulled, pushing on the axle with my feet at the same time.

I found out what I'm going to do. I will cut the swing arm about an inch above where the axle goes into the the chain guides. take off what I can and beat the hell out of the axle. I don't need the swingarm because somebody screwed up trying to extend it. and I'm not paying a shop 70 dollars an hour when I can cut my my extended swingarm and buy a used one and an axle off eBay for 50 dollars.

Heck if that's all it is now, leave it at the curb and hit Nate up for a YZF swingarm/17' rear wheel swap and be done with it. His packages are a drop-in.

it might loosen up enough if you can freeze it? i don't know what the coeff of linear expansion is for steel but you might get a few 0.001s to deal with?
