Pulsing, Lurching @ low rpm's?
I have a 93 fzr600. I really like the bike, and would love to keep it going strong. I haven't put too many miles on it yet, I bought it in December for $400. It has needed work, and so far I've:
-new clutch cable
-cleaned carbs
-new chain/sprockets
-new brakes
-new tires
-new fork seals
So, first thing I noticed about this bike is that it has a whiny transmission. I learned that this is fairly normal for these bikes (straight cut gears).
Next that I'm trying to find out is the lurching, pulsing, or bouncing transmission. Those are the only words I can think of to describe it. Only happens in 1st and 2nd gear when I'm starting (low rpms) or just rolling forward. I feel like my tranny bounces in and out of engagement. Like my primary chain is rubber. My final drive chain is new, lubed, and tightened to specs. I have synthetic blend oil. Occasionally it's accompanied with a deep rattle, but just for a second.
Not sure exactly where it's coming from because I can't duplicate it on a stand. It has to be under load it seems like.
Do these bikes have issues with timing/cam chain tensioners? Or do these symptoms relate to the actual transmission at all?
Thanks ahead of time for the help!

does it have a cush drive in the rear wheel...rubbers may be worn and makes it more noticable in lower gears

Yes! It has 3 rubber dampers! Totally forgot about those! I bet that's it.
I didn't inspect them at all last time I had the rim off, so I don't know the condition, but those going bad would fit with my symptoms. I'll let you know!

Re: Pulsing, Lurching @ low rpm's?
Clutch is adjusted, I've got about 1/8" play up at the lever.
I just lifted the back wheel (haven't removed it yet), and tested the play of the dampers. I would have expected more, but I've probably only got 1/4" difference at the most between the rim and the hub/chain. So I'm not thinking it's my dampers, do you still think it could be?

The FZR600 hates low RPMs and will stutter or buck a bit... Raise your RPMs and see if that makes a difference.

So these symptoms are totally normal? So stop and go traffic, that's just what you get?

Is the oil you used specifically for "motorcycles"?

Did you adjust the clutch at the engine end? There's a rubber grommet and adjustment screw with locking nut. Sometimes the spring tension can make it seem as though you have the correct play but it still isn't closing properly. Just mentioned it because it happened to me!

Yes, it's a Bel Ray part synthetic.ragedigital wrote:Is the oil you used specifically for "motorcycles"?
Yes, That's the only place I usually make clutch adjustments, unless I'm out on the road. So yes, clutch should be good.taggy wrote:Did you adjust the clutch at the engine end?
