Header pipe studs

Im replacing my header pipe with some second hand ones ive acquired im going to put new studs and nuts in i was going to get some from yamaha but thought again after a £48 price tag for 8 nuts and bolts.
Im wondering if there are alternative do i have to use the same one or can i just use stainless bolts ?

Sometimes OEM parts seem really expensive but when the possibility of a thread size not matching up from crappy chinese bolt manufacturers or the bolt/stud busts off cause of inferior metal I'd say hold tight and see if someone has some parts for you. Yamaha may be expensive but I've found they're parts to be bang on perfect and they are supplying for a discontinued bike and they usually can have you your parts fast. I was looking for aftermarket exhuast valves thinking Yamaha was out to lunch and found they were cheaper from Japan to Canada than from a race out fit in the states who had aftermarket. Just throwing it out there even though I know the world economy sucks and money for bike bits aint easy to come by.

Hard to justify £48 for 8 studs and bolts thats around $ 90 i was expecting about £20 crazy

Ive been told to use stainless with copper ease what size is the bolt is it 7mm one end and 6mm the other

Why do you want to replace the Studs to begin with? If they're not stripped or snapped off, I'd leave them alone. They're only fastening some thin tubing to a port. It's not a highly stressed fastener like a Head Stud. Make sure you coat the threads with some high temperature anti-sieze & snug them up. I would not replace a Stud with a Bolt. Your asking for stripped threads in the Head if you use Bolts. That's why the Studs are there in the first place.

PS. I was just recently introduced to http://www.partzilla.com for some brake disk fasteners. You might give them a shot. Don't forget to pick up some new exhaust port gaskets while you're at it.

I'm not sure, but I think they are. I suppose you could heat them up with a torch then let them slowly cool & hopefully renew them. Probably depends upon how indented they are from the original header pipes & whether or not you can get them out without dinging them up. Or you could just reuse them & hope for no leaks. If your exhaust pops upon deceleration, it is most likely sucking cold air at the gasket.

I would start a new post with the question in the Title to see what type of replies you receive. It would be cool if you could reuse the gaskets.

Yeah the copper can be reused multiple times, the guys that run super stock drag racing and higher classes use copper header gaskets cause of the re-usable nature of the copper and heat flow characteristics. I put new ones on my 1000 after re-assembly this spring but the copper ones cleaned up just fine, and the there are no bolts that have the holding power of studs, stay with studs and nuts for the exhuast cause its not like aluminum to allow for regular removal and replacement of fasteners.
