Forks seals leaking. Time for spring upgrade?

So apparently my fork seals have been leaking all along, ever since I got the bike. Never noticed it until now . So now I'm looking at a seals kit and maybe some Racetech .90 kg/mm springs (I weigh 154 LBS w/out gear).

Now my question is do I need to buy the cartridge valve emulators? Or are the new springs + fork seals + new fork oil enough?

New quality springs will make quite a difference. .90 seems a bit high, did you check race tech's calculator?

The emulators make quite a difference too, but if you are budget limited, do the springs now and them later. Check ebay for them-the ones "for" the FZR are rare, but listing for SV650 emulators are pretty common. They're the same part number from racetech.

Yeah, I entered my weight w/out gear and the number they put out is .880, but if .90 is a bit high I could go with .85. Honestly I have no idea how stiff/ the difference between .85 and .90 are so...

Probably it's the weight difference... For me it says 1.0 kg/mm.

Don't the SV's have 41 mm forks? The FZR has 38 mm. If you have a YZF600 front end then I believe you can use SV emulators.

Emulators are nice but if you are street riding you really don't need them.

Wish I'd seen this earlier...I already purchased the Race Tech springs....

Just out of curiosity how much work would replacing the entire front end entitle? What parts would I need?

Emulators are nice but if you are street riding you really don't need them.

99-02 SV650 uses RT # FEGV S3801, as does the 88-98 FZR

I dont think you would need any parts as the complete front end is on the bike so ever thing is there as far as a price open to offers

So I just dropped the bike off at the shop today, and I got to talking to the mechanics and they basically said that they thought that the .90 springs might be a bit high. But, according to racetechs calculator it's just a tad bit higher then recommended. Calculator spit out .88 so .90 was the closest. Are .90 springs going to make the bike feel like a jackhammer, or am I just making a bid deal out of nothing? I weight 154 lbs w/out gear.

ok, nvm. Just got the bike back today, and it feels fine. Better than before. Not as stiff as I thought. Although my right arm felt kinda strange after 30 minutes of riding....

I'm 140lbs and have ridden with springs ranging from .76 to 1.+ in various FZR400s. The .85s hit the sweet spot for me, but living with the .90s wouldn't have been the end of the world. The FZR600 has about 20 additional pounds, so I would think .90s would be okay for you. In your case, I'd say it's a toss up depending on your preference and road conditions. I would also think RaceTech would do an exchange for you, if you wanted.

I've had first gen R6 forks (stock springs) and I can tell you at .76 or so, they were too soft even for my light weight.

I'd do like reelrazor says and look out for some emulators on eBay. They are a significant improvement.
