fried battery??
i recently fried my battery.. started up fine went on a short 5 min ride and parked it.. sat for about 4 hrs before i tried heading home.. dead.. no lights,no fuel pump priming.. nothing. so i went home took the battery out of my little fourwheeler and it starts up and i ride home.. ran good. the batter was almost dry. its a new battery only about 5 months old.. so im probably looking at a bad vr arent i? i ask the guy at the shop where i bought it and he say he thinks the battery just had a bad day. im not sure what to watch for when a vr goes bad. what should i watch for? at least i had a warranty on the battery so i got the new one today..

IMO there is little value in waiting for the older style VR to finally fail. Do yourslef and your bike a favor and just replace it with the newer style before it does fail and it takes all your electronics with it when it does. See the links above. And I would consider finding another shop if that was the response they gave you regarding your battery. For real? Your battery had a bad day.?

A battery quickly and suddenly going dry is a MAJOR sign of a bad VRR. Going through batteries like candy is a major sign.
Vulture mode - I build and sell little adaptors to make the upgrade process nearly plug-and-play. See my sig below ...

Re: fried battery??
Battery had a bad day LOL. Classic. Replace the VR with a newer style one.
Re: fried battery??
Also, don't go to that shop anymore.
Re: fried battery??
Yeah I try to do everything on my own. I never have trusted them. And their statement cleared up any thoughts that they might have a clue what they are talking about. And a new VR it is. Lol
Re: fried battery??
What volts should the 5 pin VR read? I just upgraded to it
Re: fried battery??
Volts where?
Across the battery while engine running at 3000 rpm or more, you should see 12.8-14.2Volts DC.
Much more than that and you will fry another battery. Less than that and you will not keep up with system demand

Re: fried battery??
After you replace the VR, look at upgrading your battery to a sealed AGM type of battery. They produce more power, are more forgiving & don't puke acid fumes onto your Bike. I never buy cheap standard construction lead acid batteries any more. Check out your local "Batteries Plus" store. http://www.batteriesplus.com

Re: fried battery??
Yeah across the battery. I meant to put that. And just went for an hour ride and across the battery it reads 14.37. So I checked again and it was 14.18. Is it ok to read 14.37?
