Intro and first thread in one

Post by mo_bhaiyat »

Hey people's. I'll start with the intro. I'm 24, an aircraft systems apprentice but unfortunately I'm not a rider. So your wondering what the heck I'm doing here. That leads me to my first thread. I bought an lightly accident damaged fzr600 afew years back with the intention to use the engine, loom and afew other bits in a single seater kinda thing I have. Then I had a kid and another on the way and a 2.5 hr commute daily and.... you get the picture so it's lay stripped down to the engine in the yard since. So the question is where do I start with it?? Figured you guys are the best to ask really. I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow. Most of the major parts like wheels and frame etc went last year when I had a clear out but hopefully once I'm done all other parts left will be up for grabs.

Thanks in advance.

If I understand correctly... You have an engine & a few parts, but the Frame & the Wheels are gone?

Are you actually thinking of trying to rebuild the Bike now, so you can ride it as a commuter to save on fuel costs?

If the Frame & Wheels are missing... I think that you would be better off trying to sell the parts that you have & use that money towards buying a complete & running bike. Building a Bike & paying for missing parts is usually more expensive in the long run, plus it can take about forever. With 1.5 Kids & soon to be 2, I would think that you would not have the spare time required to build a Bike for a few years until your Kids are older.

I am also concerned about your level of Riding Experience. Usually a busy commute is NOT the correct conditions to learn how to ride a Motorcycle. The best way to learn how to ride, in my opinion, is with a small Dirt Bike out in the dirt. That way WHEN YOU FALL & chances are that you will, it won't hurt as much. You won't be much help around the house, while sitting around with a broken Wrist, Arm, Collar Bone, Road Rash, or worse. Plus once you become competent in loose dirt & bumpy conditions... Street Riding is much easier.

Sorry to be such a buzz-kill, but these are just a few things for you to consider.

Good luck

Apologies I don't think I explained well enough. I am not looking at rebuilding a bike and although I've ridden in the past I don't intend on doing so, not through choice as I love it but through common sense because I would become a statistic and my nana and mum would kill me if the bike didn't. Don't think my madula oblongata works when I get on a bike. Most people I work with ride and its sooo tempting. I'm using the engine to go in a 4 wheeled single seater, a cross between a go kart and I'd like to say f1 car but nowhere near as amazing. So I'm looking for direction in making a frame or cradle to mount the engine on and then I can start to work on the engine to get it running and running nice.
