front forks HELP PLEASE URGENT.

Post by hunter_1_2_3 »

hi i removed my front forks on my 3he fzr 600 to replace the seals. i had parts layed out in garage and when i came home from work, my young daughter had hit all the parts, muddling them up. i got the seals replaced successfully, but when it came to putting the spring in, i cant figure out the order of which they go in. i have a spring, spring seat washer, long thin cylinder like tube (ruffly 6" in length) and an aluminium spacer (2" in length). can someone please tell me the order of these parts from bottom to fork cap.

haha, the 6" sleeve seems to fit over the spring, but for some reason the forks arent springing back, when the shocks are back on the bike, they are bottoming out (sitting as low as it possibly can) and not lifting, infact i can unscrew the fork cap and there is about a 2" gap from the top to the spacer, my head is clean f*#ked with it, cant understand what is wrong, both forks have the same problem?!?!?

Did you change the springs? 2" spacers are really short ...

no thats the confusing thing, everything is what came out of the forks. i made a tool in work and split the forks in work, changed the seals and bolted them back together, came home put oil in them. there is a 6" metal sleeve that seems to go over the spring, the spring washer then a 2" spacer but then there is a further 2"(at least) gap between the spacer and the fork cap???

The metal tube should not slip over the spring.
There should be no 2" spacer in std.forks
P.O has tried to increase preload by substituting non std. parts.
Configure both the 2" spacer and the metal tube so they remain above the spring using the spring washer .!

yea don i have the spring seat. i bought the bike off a real cowboy who obviously didnt no what he was doin, took me a month to get the carbs right because of all the (non standard parts). i must admit the spring looks slightly shorter compared to standard photos, but the fact is it all fitted before hand. was thinking about combing the two sleeves ontop of the spring but not sure if thats right, the 6" sleeve is very thin compared to the 2" spacer, they can both fit on top of eachother. what length roughly should the spacer be and the spring?
thanks for the quick reply guys.
