Seeking Advise On Brake Pads & Vendors...

I just located a new rear brake disk & need to buy some pads for both the front R6 brakes & the rear FZR400 brake.

Anybody have any advise on what type of pads I should buy & what vendor is most deserving of the business?

EBC HH on the front ... Don't think it matters on the rear you don't put so much pressure through it and only really use it to hold the bike at the lights.

I use dot silicon fluid though.

Then you're not using the brakes properly. Front and rear brakes bring you to a stop in a street situation faster than fronts alone. Light rear brake settles the chassis before hard application of the fronts to reduce diving. In slippery situations, gentle rear brake is less likely to put you on your face than the fronts.

If you like to replace rotors the sintered pads are great. For the average street rider it's not needed and you are just paying up for something that will cause you to replace your rotors sooner.

As for using DOT 5... I wouldn't put dot 5 in unless it was a new everything. If you don't get all the old stuff out before adding dot 5 you can kiss your seals goodbye. Different brake fluids do not like to mix with each other.

If your road riding then you shouldn't need to brake that hard unless its an emergency. As you said light rear braking so you don't need hard pads.
HH pads do wear the discs harder but its not like they're going to disappear overnight is it ? My discs are fine and I've owned the bike for 7 years, of course you can have softer pads with less bite, you can brake earlier and grab the lever harder if you want. The reality is you'll probably sell the bike before you need to do the discs.
My brakes on the 3tj are brembo master, braided hoses (nobody will have the originals) standard calipers (4 pots on these) HH pads and standard (298mm) discs, the fluid is EBC silicon it doesn't pull water in but I've used Carplan silicon before as well.

I plan to keep this hybrid bike that I'm building for a long time. I'm not a big fan of wearing out the rotors if it isn't necessary. Try finding a replacement rear rotor for an FZR400... I got lucky & found an OEM NOS rotor on eBay, but it cost me more that I thought that it should. My front R6 rotors are still pretty smooth, but my rear rotor was totally groovy & not in a good way.

I tend to ride fairly aggresively, deep into a corner & hard on both brakes. I'd rather change pads than rotors.

Down to you then innit, but as I say you're not going to change the disks in how ever many years, you can't add to a soft setup but you can brake lighter on a harder one.

Is the rear a 210mm dia (smallest road disc ever) .... harder to find but I think EBC do them over here .... or ask Kayla http://www.projection-components.co.uk/ ... -243-p.asp

I found that disk/rotor when I was looking for a replacement. The warning that it was designed for track usage only, plus the fact that it was outside of the USA, made it look like a less than ideal replacement option. I don't know what is involved with buying & shipping from outside the USA & how much shipping would cost, or how long it would take.

I wasn't able to determine whether or not EBC still produces a replacement disk. Most of the Ads that I found for an EBC disk were followed with a notice that they were out of stock. I attempted to contact EBC by e-mail & phone, but was only able to leave a message. So far... No reply on their behalf. I found an NOS OEM disk on eBay & went ahead & bought it as it was the only option on eBay that wasn't manufactured in China or Hong Kong.

So back to the original 2 questions... Which pads would be best & is there a company, or a supplier, that has been involved with the FZR400, or supporting the cycle sports more than others, that deserves my money?

If you want to wait a little longer on the caliper I can order up some pads from Spiegler. They carry CL pads. I like them. Although I like EBC as well. With Spiegler you support a member AND a moto company! I can also get you a SS line if you would like to go all out.

I can do that. Please PM me with the details. I plan on ordering SS lines front & rear but don't know the exact lengths required yet. The rear should be fairly straight forward, but the fronts probably need to be custom length for R6 calipers & full width moto-cross type or super-bike type handle bars. I need pads for the front also if they are available from the same source. Might as well do as much as possible in one shot.
