Decals for 1988 FZR400

Post by hdscarbro »

Thought this info might be helpful. I've been looking for decals to match to OEM set on my 1988 FZR400. I found the GENESIS decal at fastdecals.com and this lead to a conversation which resulted in the creation of a complete set of the lettering decals. Jacy at fast decals was very helpful in getting all this pulled together.

The GENESIS decal in the catalog lacks the red "G". They made a custom set in black with a red "G". They didn't have the FZR or pure sports decals or YAMAHA decal in the correct font. I traced these, scanned them, created vector drawings using inkscape and sent them to fastdecals. All three are now in the fastdecals catalog.

The full set of 2 GENESIS decals, 2 FZR decals, 2 pure sports decals, 2 big YAMAHA decals for the bottom of the fairing and two small white YAMAHA decals one for the windscreen and one for tail fairing was about $100.00.

Sometimes decal / stickerakers can't produce the YAM logos because they are ... Logos and technically covered by copyright

I just hand cut the two upper triangles for the fairing upper. Material was worth about 5 bucks. Spent a bit of time on the stencil I made but very happy with the results.

I'm planning a complete repaint after I do the repairs on my bodywork of my "new" FZR, so I wanted to obtain a full decal set. I've been wondering about how to best reproduce the strobe graphics on the tail, main fairing and front cowl. I like your idea for the front cowl triangles and could probably do the same thing for the tail. The front cowl on my FZR was a complete mess of cracks and missing pieces. I'm just about finished patching it back together.

In a recent thread about 400 aftermarket fairings there is company selling reproduction panels for the 400s. If you contact them by email they may be prepared to sell you a complete decal set. I know they have done custom paint jobs on request so they sound approachable.

DO NOT GET THESE CHINESE PIECES OF CRAP!!! It's a complete waste of money. You are much better off hunting individual fairings piece by piece than throwing away $500 on this. The fitment is terrible, the quality is terrible, the tail and fender are cheap fiberglass. The upper doesn't fit properly without grinding. The windscreen doesn't line up.
