Clutch Slip
Hi People
I have a small issue with the clutch slipping on my Fzr 600 3he 1990, I have changed the friction plates and springs EBC items, I adjusted the cable up on the sprocket side (lock nut loosened turn the screw until you can feel slight resistance then 1/4 back tighten lock nut back up) but it is still suffering from clutch slip above 7,000 rpm the oil being used is 10 40 w motorcycle oil.
currently i am a little stumped and wondered if anyone has any suggestions

Well it sounds like you did everything you should have.
The only thing i'm curious about is: Did you soak the New Clutch Disks in oil before installing? or did you Install them Dry?

I soaked them in brand new 10 40 oil for 3 hours as recommended in the brief instructions on the EBC box.

how's your oil level? Low oil can cause slippage issues. Are you using synthetic oil? I've not had problem when I felt like spending the money but have heard mixed results.

Did you inspect the steels for warping?
Did you inspect the hub and basket for excessive notching, that can catch on a plate and prevent a good grab?
Did you put the pressure plate back on correctly? It goes on 5 ways, only one of which actually works!

Thanks for the reply guys,
the oil level is fine its only just had a oil/filter change about 200 miles back, basket looks good as new, I did check for warping they looked good,will check as for the pressure plate hopefully this will be my undoing

I have just checked the pressure plate and it is in the correct position had the plates out just to check i have not made a obvious error and all appears as it should as per the manual I have, it engagers gear with a bit of a clunk but nothing major neutral is easy to locate so i assume there is no problem with the clutch actuation,
you can get it to the red line on a "light throttle" but as soon as you open the throttle up fully it gets to 7-8 rpm and slips, my only thought is "bedding" in the clutch? let it go through some heat cycles?

oil is semi synthetic its a cheap brand but came from a repuatable online uk company and meets all the yamaha specs

Sounds to me like your clutch springs are weak/sacked out (have gotten shorter due to fatigue). They're quite cheap, and the free length spec is in the manual.

I think owner has replaced them with EBC units,there has been instances of incorrect springs springs being included in the kits though.
Oil as per usual, is always a major suspect in these cases.

I don't know anything about that oil; regular dino oil without friction modifiers seems to work great without problems. Maybe this Semi-Synth is too slippery ... seems like you've check all the correct mechanical bits...

have you removed the clutch pushrods and examined them? If they have shortened up (ball trying to weld itself to the rod)

Thanks for the replys, I have checked the push rods and they appear fine and in good condition,
Does anyone know what the clutch stack height should be? I measured mine to be 42mm

Thanks everyone for the input, The problem has now been solved, The issue was with Glazed steel plates i took some fine wet and dry to them then cleaned them up with brake cleaner to make sure i got rid of any fine metal particals,
and now it works as it should.
