replacement left and right cowling/ reserve switch

Post by jasparach »

Hi guys, can anyone tell me if the plastic cowling that runs from the front fairing
down over the air scoops and holds the reserve switch on the left hand side are
interchangeable from any other models, my bike is a 1990 FZR 1000 and those cowlings are
broken on mine, would any of the FZR 1000's fit or are they specific to each model design.
Thanks in advance guys.

Those trims seem to be constructed from a plastic that gets very brittle with age.
Replacements do surface on the usual auction site and £10 per side is usual.
When refitting the rocker switch use nylock nuts and do not overtighten.
The wiring on underside of the switch should face inwards towards the frame if swich orientation is suspect.
Now is a good time to fit the 5volt L.E.D. reserve fuel indicator mod.
On the 1000R you have a choice of two colours of trim;black and even blacker!
Sent from my keyboard using the English language not some teen text shite from a fooking phone.

Thanks for the info, i'll try and keep an eye out
for them and if anyone on here from the UK got
a lead on those bits i would be interested in them.
I priced them new and they are €43.50 euros each
plus vat plus shipping makes them 130 euros for the
pair so i will try and find 2nd hand first but being that
old it is hard to find them in good condition.

IF i was to fit the front fairing from a later model FZR 1000
what parts would i need from the donor bike to make it fit
the 1990 model, say if i got the parts from a 1992 model,
i know that the forks are USD on the later models, but would the
mountings for the stay bars be the same as the '90 model and
is the front of the frame the same. I know the later models have extra
casting around the seat area,if someone would know i would appreciate
it.
Thanks
John

No fairing parts fit directly from the RU to the R. You would have to fabricate or modify brackets.

Ok then i will have to try and repair what i have rather than replace the front
fairing, bits missing from it and a few cracks in it.
