Getting there....
Finally got the time to do a little engine clean.......now I can start some serious reassembly.....If I can put down the beer, drag myself off the lounge and walk outside from the air conditioning.
........maybe tommorrow

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
That looks great.......but inside I am crying...
For some reason I thought you was going to do the frame black like the swingarm. Would've looked killer
Still proper good job thought mate. I hope to do a full stripdown and rebuild of my 3LN next year - full on midnight scheme
Keep up the good work and I hope you get to put plenty of miles on it in 2013.
Chris

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
Cheers mate......
I would have done alot more if time and money allowed it.......Im a big fan of all black bikes also (and cars!)
I have a spare frame, subframe, wheels etc and when Im inspired Ill probably do the black thing with them............I also have a spare engine which I want to strip down to learn a bit more.

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
So Im rushing this thing together before I lose the rego on it.
I got it to the point of startup......once the fuel got thru it started fine and revved up ok ....but after about 5 minutes of smooth running it now starts fine but just sits at idle RPM......choke makes no difference and turning the throttle does nothing...except if u let it off then the motor dies.
Now I havnt touched the carbs as it ran just fine before dismantling the bike and I just wanted it to run enough to get it to the bike shop and back.......which it was initially today but suddenly not!
Any idea why it would suddenly change?
Fuel pump is priming ok
I wired the exup open but no change.
Choke worked initially now it has no effect
Im running it with just the "pull" throttle cable as Im waiting on the "push" cable to come in the post.....would this effect the operation of the carbs?
Edit: just ran it for a few minutes again and no.4 header is cold

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
Could just be a bad plug (you do get bad ones - even new) or the cap. Cuta short bit of the HT lead off and re-screw the cap onto the lead.
I get the bad feeling my 3LN3 head gasket is a goner getting hard to start now and lots of white smoke today
Looks like I'm going to be pulling it off the road befoe I had planned.

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
Bloody bikes and women....so unpredictable and can never understand them.....
I spent all day finishing other things (chain, sprockets, brake lights, gear lever, rear caliper yada yada yada) then decided to try and start her up.....first go and revved like mad
All I did was pull the cap off no4 and push it back on earlier....maybe it wasnt on properly...... ...who knows
I had already cut a small piece off each lead and reseated the caps during the rebuild but I will buy a couple of xtra plugs t/m as I still think no4 header wasnt anywhere near as hot.
The other PIA is a small coolant leak (always use new o rings )
Edit: ..and a leak from under the tank connection

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
So I was planning a test ride today but alas I have zero front brakes......
Fluid isnt pumping out of the master......theres no blokages as theres air from both bleed nipple tubes but thats all.....took off the banjo at the master and nothing there either...looks like a master cylinder dismantle
The intermittent "no revs" issue is still happening....I think its fuel starvation as I can hear the fuel pump screaming for mercy just before it cuts out.
Can someone with a 250 3LN please tell me the destination of the 3 fuel lines from the petcock, as per my other thread....as this may be my problem as the lines are all new, filter new and when fuel seems to get there it revs strongly and for long periods (as it did most of today when i was setting up the EXUP cables etc.)

This bike is really starting to piss me off...I guess working all day on it in 40C heat doesnt help.

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
Well managed a couple of klms up the road and back.....pulled like stink untill u had to slow to nothing to turn around, then it went back to just "idle" even rolling the throttle to full .....I had to wait 10/15 minutes before it would start with the full rev range......then it came back home like a scolded cat ...but did the same when I had to turn to come inside the driveway.
