Chris...
your bike is looking good mate.....wish I could get my hands on some silicone cooling hoses like that
Nik.....
Oil on the pipes?....thats interesting
swingarm is done (as per pix ) but I still have to get into the subframe which will be time consuming and fiddly as theres so many nooks and crannys...but it needs painting from scratch.

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
Great progress being made. We will both have 'New Old Stock' bikes when we're done
Re the hoses. For mine I bought the Samco silicone hose kit for it. However the left hand side (as you sit on the bike) going from pump to rad was about 50-70mm too short I ended up buying a stock 1metre length of 22mm inner diameter silicone hose in the same colour.
I am considering getting some 8mm inner diameter silicone fuel pipe and putting the same tank feed/fuel tap setup the 250 has onto my 400. Its got an electronic reserve switch - and I dont think I could trust that
I am pretty sure the 250 uses 8mm fuel pipe - so the 400 shouldn't run lean........

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
hi,
that bike is certainly looking a whole lot better.
I will pick up your query to Nik about oiling the pipes, The stuff i used was GunKote which as the name implies I use on my side arms and long guns .
It has to be baked on after spraying (will not hold well on alloy far better on steel ) you bake the metal and then it is recommended that you oil the surface to give the finish a "gleam " rather than a shine.
The fact it was designed for guns does not negate the use of oil on the bike pipes and the finish is remarkably tough and stays rust free in the tropics. I did do one dirt bike without the oil and after about 3 months of very heavy use in the Jungle the pipes started to show rust spots. I re-did the finish and oiled it and sold the bike. The new owner rode with our group for a couple of years and I did not see any real sign of deterioration to the pipes.
So the oiling stayed part of the ritual.

Simple Rear Sprocket Question............
So should the "indented" side of the rear sprocket face the hub or be on the outside?

Can someone tell me what will change if I drop the "no 3' bolt to the lower hole?
Okay, I'll bite?
The lower hole in the bracket that locates the 'relay arm' for the rear shock ??
That's for the uber-rare Yamaha factory accessories catalog optional centerstand (I think some countries Yamaha sold them in require centerstands?) I remember there was a factory bag rack for the rear of the FZR line as well......on the catalog page entitled "touring accessories" (hah!!)

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
Rear Caliper Shims
Yamaha - 47X-25827-00-00 - SHIM, CALIPER
Not surpringly these (10 & 11) are missing from both rear calipers I have.......
What purpose do they serve and why are they on the rear and not on the fronts?

Re: My FZR250 3LN Renovation and Question Thread
At a guess I would say they are anti squeal plates. These stop the brakes making alot of screeching at low speeds. They also probably help dissipate the heat from the pad into the caliper. Modern brake pads are much better than 20 years ago, that said I always smear a *little* coppaslip on the back of the pad where it touches the piston.
