Here is a nice photo of a Commando rod big end failure due to oil starvation ;caused by pattern filter splitting and then dumping debris upstream of oil pump,

The man who fitted this was very fortunate:
He had saved £1.70 by economics in service item purchases.

I am unable to find a Yamaha example in my records at present will will do so at a later date when in the office.

i am not picky about oil filters, I have run everything from expensive ones, to the cheapest I could find on sale, with oil ranging the same. On my old truck I even ran a cheap autozone brand oil filter for almost 30K miles. Know what I found when I opened it? a dirty oil filter that had not popped its bypass open. Stick to service intervals and all should be fine. P.S. My last bike was a duc, "factory" filters were over $20, offbrand was $4, and after 3k miles there was no ill effect from the cheap filter.
