Racing Stands

Post by white86tercel »

http://www.fzronline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7938 mentions that some stands won't work because of the left fork's pointed shape. Unfortunately they don't show any pictures of stands that will work.
I found the attached stands for sale for $100. Do you think they will work with a 1990 FZR600.

No, those will not work. The FZR doesn't have spool mounts so the stand on the left is out. The right stand is a Lockhart Phillips stand and while it can be used with the front end of an FZR, great care must be used in order to do it. Not something you have time for if using the bike for racing.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I am mainly looking to use the stands for winter storage (keep weight off tires) and basic maintenance. Do you think using the left stand for the rear wheel and the right stand for the front wheel will meet my needs?

The left stand won't work period with the fzr. The right stand would work for storage but I wouldn't trust it for basic maintenance. You'd be better off with a front stand that lifts from the triple and not the fork legs. For the rear you need a stand with pads/platforms that will go under the swingarm.

Honesty, just spend the money on good stands. It's well spent and worth it in the long run for piece of mind.

Cant see the point in spending hundreds on the top of the line stuff if its just for maintenance and/or storage.

I have a pit-bull rear stand that works for spool or non spool swingarm.

For the front I have a vortex stand that goes under the triple tree.
