Noob question from a new member *pressed for time

Post by 1nastyB5 »

Sorry guys, new to the boards AND my first post. ( i do know proper ettiquite) How ever im about to go buy a 91 fzr 600 with 12k miles on trade for $150 and very nice glock 19 G4 with extras. Atm, the bike only needs the "push rod oil seal". Once again sorry for asking this question again probably, but im at work ad scouring the forums and cant find what i need to LOOK for. in 2 hours im going to go look at the bike and potentially trade. what else should i look for as the basket is currentley on the bike. Said hes been riding it with out the proper seal. What can happen from this? What should i be aware of. thank you in advance

Here is a link you should read before buying :: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1445

We hear that very often. The seller says that it "only needs this or that". Chances are that it may be (and usually is) a much bigger problem.

If you can get it cheap enough and have the ability to fix it... well, go for it.

Hi,
welcome to the forum.
If it is the clutch rod oil seal the area behind the front sprocket cover will show signs of an oil leek (drip variety (not the usual chain lube / road grime sticky mess. Seal replacement is trivial BUT if the clutch rod or bore holoe where it sits is worn it may need a new rod /or since they are bit scarce new Y-geo added hard weld to the worn area and then turned it down to size with carbide tipped lathe tool, yes i was watching and i did ask so now I know LoL

Hi Camala, yeh the Old Man did that to mine as we were pushed for time on my re-build last year , did not realise the rods were no longer available except off Ebay etc.......
How is the old guy? you said he is getting fitter are we likely to see you this year?

Well I went ahead and did the trade but i didnt pay him the 150, only a glock i piad 300 for. The bike is in ok condition. the clutch doesnt seem to engage right and i dont thinks its going into first, (assuming its 1down 2up), The start cover is covered in putty, and when we start it, it pours oil from that clutch seal. All in all, its an awesome dealll it even has brand new tires and a clean title

where the clutch cable goes into where the shifter sits, there it will tell your gear patter.

When i try to shift the bike either by hand or foot, the ENTIRE trans moves. At its most open point
(also where it seems it does NOT shift) i cant fit a finger all the way to the back of the trans towards the front tire before my finger hits the frame.(bad description will upload pics soon). When i support the trans with my other hand and shift it clicks up from N, no problems. but thats with me supporting the entire transmission with my hand. you can see in one ofthe pics i upload my finger fits between the trans and frame. the next is the supported gap

From the pictures you need a peanut cover, with gasket. And all the bolts that hold the chain cover to the engine. and it looks like the pinch bolt for the shifter isnt there.
