17 inch rear wheel swap in a fzr400-600?

Post by fastbiker1973 »

Just what the subject says. I'm looking for the answer to what 17 inch rear wheels will fit in a fzr400 swing arm and what mods need to be done to get the chain to run strait and true from the counter shaft sprocket on the fzr600 motor. If a 520 chain and sprocket kit makes the clearance easier to achieve than that info will help in the build.

thanks for your help in direction,

not sure if you would get a 17 into the swingarm sensibly as they will be wider than the 18 in there. these are some that have been suggested to fit with mods, but i don't know what mods they would be! A 4.5" TZ (or TZR) 250 rear wheel, An 88-89 GSXR-750 rear wheel, An F2 rear wheel.

i do know that for the 3en1 you can use a 3tj swingarm and need the pivot bushed down with a couple of top hat washers, think its from 20 to 16mm or something. you may need to remove some material from the sprocket carrier to get it lined up. mine had about 3mm shaved off to get everything straight.
Fzr400 3tj x2
fzr400 3en1 (17in conversion) now gone its way in parts!

Less machine work and looks stock is the yzf600 swingarm/wheel. That's the route I went and the parts are silly cheap. Handles like a DREAM.

Full specs are yzf600 swingarm/wheel, gsxr750 shock w/stock links, 2003 cbr600rr forks/wheel. This thing is AWESOME

If you can find one, i think an SZR660 wheel just might be an easier fit

Neil,
George's point was that not everyone is familiar with the "deltabox" arm and a picture considering the confusion so far would have cleared up the point and some useful advice obtained.
