400/600 build questions.

Post by Murat »

I'm in the middle of a 600 swap and figured that i should ask a few questions rather than reinventing the wheel. I got the motor bolted in and just have to resolve a few issues.

1) Does anyone have a pic of where to relocate the coils?
2) What header clears the front fairing? I would prefer to use an EXUP one if there is one that fits.
3) I'm using a 400 radiator and the fan does not fit. Will it be ok for street riding that way as long as I stay out of stop and go traffic?
4) My 600 carbs are currently damaged, will it work with the 400 carbs?
5) Will a stock 400 or 600 air box work or do i need pods?
6) Should I remove the plastic vents that are located behind the mid fairings and the plastic cover that blocks off the carbs, air box, and coils from radiator heat? They are touching the taller 600 motor and i think they might melt.
7) Do I need the 600 fuel pump?

Did you search? I don't know, maybe this information is on this board or inthe wiki. If not, this might help.

I used the coils and mount from the 400 in my build and the air box from my 600. I happen to squeeze in the 400 radiator with the fan from my 6, it was a tight fit but it works. With that too I had to use the coolant line from the 400 that bolts into the motor on the clutch side that way I could use the hoses from the 400. As far as headers go I have a fighter so I can't help you there sorry. And i had to use the fuel pump off of the 400 because my other one was taking a shit on me. So far everything is working fine except Iam waiting to finish building to pass inspection I finally got my title for my frame after a lot of foot work. I hope this helps a little.

Making progress. I got the motor running although it's not in riding condition yet. Waiting on a 530 chain and pod filters since neither the 400 or 600 air boxes work. I just got new carbs and a 600 radiator that i'm going to install this weekend.
