painting calipers
I'm going to get my calipers powder-coated. Should I split them apart or just take the pads and pins out or what do you think I should do to prep them?

Have you ever taken them apart before to clean the pistons and put new seals in ?
If all that is done then I guess just stuff them and tape them. Only problem is won't the paint get in / stuck around the allen screws ?
Kind of a conundrum. With that in mind, maybe you should take them completely apart and only mask / send the pieces you want painted. I kinda like mine the stock silver color, I assume you already sanded them down, removing all existing paint.
I'd be afraid the new paint would leak inside and mess up the pistons etc. Sounds like a royal pain in the arse.

The rubber seals won't hold up to the heat of the PC. You'll have to completely dismantle the calipers and tape off where the pistons go. Or just take off the whole inside section since you won't really see it anyway.

I would not powder coat them. I would just tape off what you need to tape off and go buy brake caliper paint. Powdercoating is just too much of a headache in this instance.

I would paint them unless you are confident enough to do a complete rebuild. Otherwise you may never get them back together again. Don't know how good you are. But there is risk.

I think the fact that its free makes it all the reason more todo it . Givin you've rebuilt them before ? I'd just spray them with a 5$ can instead of splitting them but that's just me seams like I'd be making a bigger job then just powdercoating them . Goodluck with them free is the best way

Hell if someone told me they would powdercoat my PLASTICS for free I'd prolly do it

Don't worry Zero.. I'll help you rebuild it. I say get them coated.. and if mine happen to walk into the shop too, well that's just awesome now isn't it.
