my2cents I really dont like the r6 tails on the fzr's, if you're gonna mod it to look like something its not, why not a period appropriate bike, like the OW-01
just my screwy
try one of these tails: http://airtech-streamlining.com/yamaz/OWO11991.htm

I'm in the process of switching to a clear alternatives lens with red LED 1157 bulbs inside, just waiting for all the pieces to get here. Looks like I will have to drill out some rivets to get the stock lens off, haven't really looked that close.

All done, the PO actually cut the old lens down and then pop riveted it to the tail light body. Clear alternatives lend snaps right in, the 1157 LED bulbs look good but not as bright as I had hoped. still, for $20 its a good upgrade and looks sharp.

Csc, if you want custom led lights let me know I posted some pics of a few I've done. I can build any style you want.

This it's what I ended up with, I think it looks good.

From the back:

From the side:

LED strip used to illuminate license plate mounted on underside of lens, spliced to tail light (blue& black)

Note the cluster LED bulbs visible through the lens.

Like I said, it's a super cheap mod and takes all of fifteen minutes.

CSC,
I admire your taste in indicators (have them on my "yellow peril" bike ) and for 20 dollars it is value for money mod,

the thing that worries me is your LED strip being in all the backblast from Tyre and exhaust which will corrode the very fine wiring of the strip where the tracks are exposed leading to premature failure.

If you want to use the strip mount it on model makers ply and put it inside the lens you can use a couple of computer board stand offs to keep the hot LED's off the plastic

OR you could do this :-

Just thinking out loud

Thanks for the concern, but it's designed to be mounted under the rocker panels of cars. the LEDs are sealed in a soft plastic tube, melted shut at both ends. Also they were 2 for $5 on Ebay, so I really don't care if one dies on me.
