No that's great sonny. I was originally looking for someone who had experience with this EP7 - which I believe is the one originally listed in this post.
Can you tell me your experiences with it? Tach works by wrapping the wire around a plug wire like a Vapor? the eBay page doesn't really give a ton of info.
How long did it take to get to you?
Thanks

Re: cheep digital speedometers found
It took me about a week and a half from what I can remember. It does wrap around ignition coil like trail tech. It isn't top of the line but works for my application.

Thanks sonny. That's great. I don't need anything too fancy, but having both speedo and tack, and the idiot lights would be great.

I'm in the process of wiring up the neutral and oil light, just have to use relays for it to work due to how our stock gauges are wired.

I'd love to pick your brain about the wiring if I end up going this route. You need relays because they are LED?

Re: cheep digital speedometers found
you need relays because stock gauges have constant power to bulb, then when you put it in neutral, it gives that power source a ground which in turns lights the bulb. But the new gauge uses one ground for all indications. So it lights when given a power source. That make sense?

Re: cheep digital speedometers found
I think it does. Maybe I will hit you up when it comes time to actually wire one of these things

I am using the Universal one w/ zip tie sensor. I epoxied the magnet to my brake rotor in an inconspicuous spot.nortstudio wrote:Which model do you have? What's the cost, roughly? They do not have the idiot lights, correct?
It retails where I work @ $130 for the kit I got. You can also get a separate kit for $50 that adds the dummy lights if you need them. The generic kit I got comes with a cylinder head temp sensor, but they do have a kit where you can splice in a sensor to your liquid cooling system if you would prefer that.
Concerning wrapping a wire around a plug wire for the tach sensor, it's pretty simple. It uses induction to get a signal from the coil by wrapping a wire 5-10x around your #1 coil wire. I taped mine around it using electricians tape, and it was spot in with the factory tach before I disconnected it. I can take some pics of it and UL them if you would like a better look at it.

Re: cheep digital speedometers found
I'd definitely appreciate the link. I'm having a bad experience with my first purchase from china right now - so a little extra $ for a more local company wouldn't kill me at this point.
Thanks so much.

Re: cheep digital speedometers found
Love to see some photos of either of these two options on the bike if anyone has any.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: cheep digital speedometers found
Ok folks. I got the Vapor, and aside from having no indicator lights, I'm golden
Sonny, I know you said you were in the process of setting up the bike with relays for the lights. Honestly, I can't even wrap my head around the turn signals indicator, let alone the neutral/oil lights.
Can you give me a brief rundown (dummies version) of how you did yours?
The closest I got was getting the turn signal to indicate only when I turn to the right . I was getting no oil or neutral like at all (which confuses me if it's supposed to be constant). I checked them all hooked directly to the battery, and they all work.
I am using LED with built in resistors from Radio Shack.
Thanks!
