i got a hole the in head??
so, whats this hole in the engine for??? there is another one just like it on the right side of the engine... the one in the pic is on the kickstand side. u can see all the way in, and has a bit of oil drip out of it , i believe i seen the piston thru it !?!? strange part is thet are both the same and smooth bored holes , no threads ?? so are these holes suppose to be there???? are they some type of view port, access port??? are they suppose to be plugged.....
Re: i got a hole the in head??
they're drain holes for the spark plug wells.
supposed to be there, entirely normal.
And, the only worry I would have was if they were plugged.

Those holes are so that should rain / wash water get in the valley between the cam shafts it has a place to run off before shorting the plugs.
Before removing the spark plugs a COMPETENT mechanic will take an air hose nozzle to those holes and blow all the dust & road debris from the valley so when the spark plugs are pulled crap does not fall in the engine.

Re: i got a hole the in head??
okay thanks for the insight. so i shouldnt be concerned if there is oil coming out of the kick stand side?? i mean it isnt much .. just enough to notice .. like maybe a drop or three. i just wrote it up to the fact that it is on the kick stand side so gravity is naturally going to put it that way
Re: i got a hole the in head??
There shouldn't be any oil coming out of the weep holes around the spark plug tower. That (hopefully!) is just an accumulation of crud, rainwater, dead mice and rotting leaves.
If there is actual oil coming out of the weep holes, something is very wrong.

Just means you have a oil leak at the camshaft cover gasket.

Re: i got a hole the in head??
ok well thank for the info , can someone point me to a good place to pick up a replacement gasket?
Re: i got a hole the in head??
You may not need a new gasket; I would check the following first.88FZRMAYHEM wrote:ok well thank for the info , can someone point me to a good place to pick up a replacement gasket?
Gasket is seated properly (can get a small twist in a section which can cause a leak)
Check the tightness of the bolts (could be loose)
No sealant on the corners of the gasket, near the ½ round bits. (sealant shouls be used)

Re: i got a hole the in head??
well i found it , it was just the valve cover gasket. took the cover off and took the gasket off the valve cover itself, cleaned it all up real pretty, put some gasket sealent on the cover and the gasket(both sides) and put her all back together and ... no more leaky

Re: i got a hole the in head??
ok , so i only found half of it.... it appears that it is seeping oil at the gasket just below(head gasket?) the hole i refered to in the pic above...i think its the head gasket!?
its the gasket just below the hole in the pic. it just barely leaks ...just enough to stain the casing, and only really seems to be noticeable when block is cold , once it warmed up there isnt any signs of leakage. also it isnt enough to notice any change in oil level... there isnt any coolant leakage or milky oil or steamy exhaust, just a little oil seeping ... so i main question is>> is it the head gasket? and (im sure i'll catch hell 4 this but) has anyone tried any of that head gasket repair stuff like this https://secure.steelseal.com/index.php/ ... 7QodPW0EQw ??

bike runs fine very strong... doesnt over heat,
Re: i got a hole the in head??
Your arrows are pointing to the head gasket.88FZRMAYHEM wrote:bike runs fine very strong... doesnt over heat,
My first step would be to give the engine a good clear and confirm were the leaking coming from.
If the leak is from the head gasket then next I would re-tighten the cylinder head bolts.
