Frustration boiling over

I can not believe this SH*T, i just got a call from the Yamaha dealer that they can no longer work on older than 10 year bikes, esp if not running.
wtf!!!!!! why could they not tell me this before i took it up there and before i left!!!!!! Now i may just trade it in and get something else, I don't have time to mess with this bs, I need something running today!!!!!! Dealer name to be withheld for now. :swear

It's not just your dealer. It's all the dealers.

It's simply too much hassle for them. They know we don't want to spend a small fortune on them to get them fixed. The bike is simply, in most cases, not worth having them charge us $800+ to correct a problem.

People who spend $7k and up on a new bike, will spend the money to get it repaired, because they have the investment.

However, don't think that it's any cheaper for them to work on new bikes - it's not. They get raped just like us...

you're gonna have to ditch the dealer and go for a local motorcycle/atv shop

Welcome to the FZR World. That's pretty standard. Out of all the places that could possibly fix your bike probably only 25% of them will actually try.

The problem with our older bikes is that usually when they take them apart they find other problems. Or you get the bike back and something else has gone wrong or broken or cracked or dry rotted or God knows what. Plus a lot of the young technicians only know how to work on fuel-injected bikes. It boils down to liability, bother, and volume of business. Most places want to guarantee their customers a timely turnaround, so this helps them stay on time by not bothering with our bikes.

Fortunately there are still lots of shops out there with really good older mechanics who know what they're doing. I hope you find one, it took me about 10 years to find a really great mechanic, it's not easy.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to try and crack ths nut myself. I may just have to buy a daily driver motorcycle while I do it!

As an ex-service agent the problem boils down to a number of things:-

Yamaha only supply spares parts for 10 years for any given model. If the part is used on a later model then the 10 years from that model.

Most so called mechanics are real young (ie cheap) so they know bugger all except late models anyway. If you own a two stroke God help you most of the mechanics who knew their stuff are either retired or dead.

The shop manager does not take time to train techs as it is not financially viable.

In the 3rd world you stand a better chance since bikes are asked to last longer by any means possible.

The alternative is doing it yourself & doing PREVENTATIVE maintenance rather than OH sh*t it broke type maintenance and you will always need 2 transports no if but or maybe about that.

Understandable, Its just that they made no attempt to convey this problem until I called a day later. But they more or less made it up by hauling the bike back to me. So that saved me some more annoyance.

well some one eventually got on the ball, their front desk jockey is the ignorant one since he/she did not know what the bike was. Hopefully the shop paper work will get model & year added to it so the same mistake will not occur again.

Thankfully you have the bike back and in one piece and nothing else busted by some ham headed numpty with the truck. canofworms
