Hey folks. Was about to order some brake pads today - and then realized I should probably rebuild the front calipers with new seals. In doing some research for the kits, I came across several people talking about just skipping the FZR stock caliper rebuild for the swap to the R6 calipers and MC.
I'm coming from a 1976 single rotor front brake set up - so the FZR is amazing, comparatively. Before I go buying pads and kits for brakes I might eventually want to trash, I figured I should ask here if the advantage is really worth it.
I found a full set up - but would want to know if the price is worth it (since I'd probably need to rebuild these after the purchase price). As I said, currently the bikes braking is SO much better than I am accustomed to - but I would rather go with the best safety and functionality I can get.
There are other places I'd like to put my money (front fork springs/rebuild), so I'm trying to prioritize.
Appreciate any advice.
Scott

The calipers won't offer much of an upgrade. The master cylinder will. The calipers look nicer and are mono block so they are tiny bit stiffer but SS lines and r6 mc are the real upgrades.
Although I have some blue spot calipers if you still want to upgrade.

Thanks kid. Do you know if the same years hold true for the MC swap too? Do I need to stay within the confines of the 200-2002 models?
Apreeciate your help.

You can move to the newer years on the mc. You'll end up with a radial mc which some people say applies too much force but others have used it and love the feel. I'm pretty sure I have one of each in the shop. Ss lines too if you're interested.

Re: R6 front brake swap
Yes please. Give me a price for the setup. What shape are they in? Do they need full rebuild???
I want these brakes to be good - but I swear, if they get TOO much better, I won't be able to go back and forth etween the old CB550 and the FZR. I'll end up flipping myself over the bars!

Na you will just need to upgrade the CB's brakes next. I did a modern brake upgrade to my '72 H2. Holy cow what a difference 40 year newer brake technology is.

Re: R6 front brake swap
I ended up picking up a cheap set of calipers and the MC from eBay. I figure I might as well do the swap while I have the front torn apart for painting. Now all I need are the steel lines, and I'm off to the races (or not really, but you get the idea)
The CB is upgraded already with stainless lines and fresh pads, but I'm not sure I'll get too much more modern with that. I'm used to it, and they work well enough for what I use it for.

I can order you new lines from spiegler, goodridge, or galfer if you'd like.

Thanks.
I really should hold off for now - but Give me prices, just in case I get the itch to spend too much money...AGAIN!
