sub 2lb battery on the market

Post by olie05 »

These guys claim they have a superior sealed battery for use in motorcycles. Who's going to be the guinea pig??

They claim their 8cell has a lead acid equivalent of 15amp hours! our stock batteries are 12Ah.

http://www.ballisticparts.com/products/ ... /8cell.php

Up to 80% smaller than the stock battery
Up to 10lbs Lighter than the stock battery
Service life of over twice a lead acid in similar conditions
Industry leading 3 year warranty
Designed, developed, and assembled in the USA
Hard mounted brass terminals for a direct replacement installation <-- I'm about to break off another battery terminal on my "normal" battery banghead
Completely “dry” technology so batteries can be mounted in any direction
Non-toxic, recyclable, and can be air shipped
Applications for powersports vehicles from 50cc - 1800cc
Tested extensively by professional race teams
Impact and water resistant
Works with the original equipment charging system
No trickle charger required, loses only 10% of charge over a year of static use

There are a lot of lightweight batteries out there. The back of Sport Rider is full of them. The problem is the cost to weight ratio.

Who really needs a light weight battery? Racers could use them and that is the intended audience. There really is no use for street riding.

If you want to seriously lose weight, look first at the rider. You can also just put 1 gallon less of fuel - that should be close to 8 pounds.

Nope, just looking in the mirror....

It's funny that some of the riders I have spoken to at Track Days look at reducing the weight of their bikes, but could easily lose 20-30 pounds themselves. Probably because the weight of the bike is easier to reduce. ha!

My drag racing uncle (funny cars) told me that if you can shave 100 lbs, get 1/10 of a sec off your time. It's probably more mental than anything.

That battery is at leat feasible. A lot of the ones I've seen are in the 300 range.
