Back in the '80's the English firm Tigcraft built a RD/RZ 350 with a similar frame with a WELDED plate tank alah ModKing.
which proves that nothing is ever that "new"

As you will see about half way down on this page The Dutch Riemanoc team had done it to a Yamaha TR2 in 1972
