Fuel prob.........

Post by brcree »

I hope this is the correct place for this kind of question.....No fuel getting to carbs. What I have tried so far: bench tested pump, fuel filter is the correct way in line, all hoses have no abstructions, no kinks in hoses, fuel lines are connected correctly, fuel in tank, petcock is on,......when I turn key on.....I hear the pump running for a few secs. and goes off. Eng. turns over and has a slight pop like it wnats to start. Any Ideas? :headscratch:

Pull the red hose off the carbs, turn the key on. Does fuel flow out? If not, repeat with each hose going upstream until you find fuel.

Thanks Don....does the pump self prime?, or do I need to do that? I have a clear filter so I can see gas in it. But when I turn key on the filter doesn't fill all the way up, the filter is partially filled by gravity.

The pump is gravity-fed; it is situated under the tank and lifts the fuel to the carbs. The 4-sec (or less) or chattering at key-on is the priming cycle, controlled by the TCI box.

Still don't understand why no fuel up to carbs..................... banghead...I guess if the fuel pump and lines have been drained, you will need to cycle the pump several times to get the fuel up to the carbs?

No the pump would switch of once the fuel system is primed, so you would just hear it run for longer than usual if the lines where empty.

OK, now the pump isn't running as long........I know the hose comomg from pump to the carbs is clear, no kinks.

Could be something inside the carbs.

it sounds like it too me if you say theres no leaks, the pump runs, check whether you got fuel in the float bowl and if you do it something to do with the jets, if not you have a blockage along the lines so work from the carbs back checking for fuel coming out of the pipes.

Have fuel........just must have taken a bit to get the system filled.........little to no spark found. I'm new to these kind of bikes so work with me. Not new to wrenchen.

Did you test all four plugs or just the one? There a thread around here about a tci failure where it sparks on two plugs but not the others. cant remember who posted it. but with this you just gotta work from the plugs backwards.
