Fuel mixture problems

Post by deathcomesarippin »

I finally got my bike to run, but it only runs with the choke on and anytime I give it gas it dies. if I give it gas when it first starts up it will rev up, with a little bit of black smoke. I have been playing with the mixture screws, but it also sounds like the timing is off, maybe I shouold try to advance the timing?
modded air box,
K&N drop in,
race tech fork springs,
R6 header-kerker exhuast,
things to come, 520 conversion, jet kit, yzf front brake calibers

I doubt that it's your timing.

Buy or borrow a IR Temp Gun.
1. Set all of the mixture screws at 3 turns out (from being fully in).
2. Run the motor and check the temps between each of the cylinders - measure at the same point on each part of the header; usually 1-2" out from the cylinder head.

The goal is to first find out what cylinders may be having issues and then try to make all of the temperatures the same between the cylinders. If a certain cylinder is really low, then you have a fuel delivery problem (i.e. stuck float)

You can then adjust the temperatures of each cylinder by turning the mixture screws in and out. This is only for the IDLE range.
