Passenger Seat Removal

Post by neeko »

If I do not have the key to unlock the passenger seat or maybe I do and the lock is broken, how do I remove the seat? I cannot figure it out. Any ideas?

Also does the odometer cable screw in below the front caliper? Came off but I wanted to be sure that was the right spot.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had trouble with mine initially, I have found that you need to put some downward pressure on the forward edge of the passenger seat as you turn the key. Seems to work for me anyway.

Speedo cable screws into the little donut-shaped gearbox on the front axle, left side.

No dice on the seat. Tried the frontward, side and back pressure. Anyone know how to pick that lock? The key does turn but again it doesn't unlock.

Also can anyone show a picture of the two points where the odometer connects? One is obviously right behind it and the other? Can you make sure I can see other things around it so I can identify its location please?

I already have it screwed in at one location by the break caliper and I just want to verify that it is correct. Thanks!

The speedo cable goes to the speedo. Oddly enough ... The other attaching point will be either behind or on the left side of the speedo.

clearly we are using different terms. I am referring to an odometer. Something that measures distance. I dont know what the speedo is. I feel like you are referring to a speedometer.

The odometer is housed inside the speedometer pod, and is considered a subsidiary instrument. The odometer is the numbers that roll around; the speedo is the needle that sweeps back and forth.

you can 'tease' the seat up enough to access the screws in the fairing, get the rear sides off and then as you look at the lock there should be a triangular shaped plate that covers the locking mechanism. get a large screwdriver and lever it up out of the way, you should be able to get some needle nosed pliers and pull the mechanism back to get the seat off. Had to do this on mine as the lock was knackered!

Try grafite. I use it on all my locks.

turn the key -- grab the seat strap (if it still has one) and sake rattle n roll (push down and lift) -- if the key turns it should finally lift off.
