Hi,
I was at the shop today had the valves adjusted and put in some progressive springs. wow what a nice difference I don't see how I was riding on that sponge before. I highly recommend that change next time you do you fork seals.
Question I am running what I believe to the V&H Headers, the guy at the shop used to race the FZR and said that those headers suck and ate the cause of my minor low end surging, you know the uh uh uh at almost idle. They said when you go back to the stock headers or D&D headers that goes away.
Comments?
Also I am looking at buying a set of factory headers and the one I am looking at has the California model. It looks like it has what I have never seen as the EXUP flapper valve with two lines coming out to a vacuum control. I have heard that this set up is actually better for low end than the stock?
Can I use this set on my non Exup bike? If so how?

as long as the carbs are tuned properly just having headers shouldn't create any issues. I would definitely try to do a carb sync and heat sync on the headers.

I just had the valves adjusted, carbs adjusted and re-synchronized. It runs great like the day I first had it. But it always had this jerkiness rolling around a sharp corner in gear at idle or just off idle. The guys at the shop said it was the crappy header. These guys are racers and pro mechanics with an inground dyno with load braking. They have been tuning bikes for 40 years. So my original questions still stand.

Sounds like an exup header. I believe you will need additional controls and a cali tci. Your better bet would be to find headers with a 4-2-1 design such as muzzy, not sure if D&D had it, or modified R6 headers.

I have been reading the thread you started (I just found it on Google actually). Does the R6 require plastic mods? It looks like it did. I am looking to not chop my plastic but I do want to mount a shorty muffler when I get done.

I think it depends on your fairing mounts honestly. I've heard it go both ways. Some people say they needed to trim and other people say it bolted up fine. I know the first set I did, I made a plate adapter for Matt so he could space his fairings out without them touching the header. All it was was a sheet of plastic drilled and bent a little. Not hard at all to make. But R6 headers are fairly cheap to buy if you can weld them up yourself, or I offer them for $130 shipped ready to bolt on.

Are the R6 headers more free flowing than the originals? Has anyone compared performance difference? What is the difference if just using the stock headers? I was thinking about stock and customizing a slip on for it. I would consider your offer thank you if the R6 was a better header or offered an advantage.

The r6 is a 4-2-1 design and bigger than stock. Not quite as big as V&H tube but the 4-2-1 design seems to offer better midrange than a V&H. Overall customers have rated it very positively with a much smoother power curve and a feeling of more power. I would agree with what TK has said so far. I have an R6 header and my butt dyno tells me that it has more go in the midrange.
