headlight questions
Bought this bike and the po had the headlights wired directly to the battery VIA a toggle switch. Need help locating the stock wiring on the bike, I don't even know if its still there, if it is I don't know what I'm looking for. Also, the headlights are single-filament bulbs. Did this bike have hi/low beams in the bulbs or was it low-1 headlight, high-2 headlights? It has an r1 body kit on it and I'm not even sure if the headlights are stock. It's a 1996 fzr 600.

Re: headlight questions
Yeah stock, the bulbs should be dual filament. A very common fault on the FZR is, a blue/black wire comes loose in the right hand switch gear, same applies to the left hand switch gear, I'd start there. Take a look at the wiring diagram, yeah I know it's from a single h/lamp 1991 but the H/lamp wiring is the same except for the additional h/lamp. Wiring Diagram <<< click that

Re: headlight questions
Ah wait... an R1 body kit so I guess you have R1 h/lamps. I'm not entirely sure but I think R1's have 1 h/lamp for low and 1 for hi, both h/lamps should be on when in the hi position.
Are the h/lamps HID's (High-intensity discharge)? if so thats why the PO wired them direct to the battery VIA a toggle switch. They should be wired VIA relays tho.

Re: headlight questions
Idk if they are hid, it was the ppo that did the conversion. He wired the lights like that because the VR was shot and he was a moron. He kept it on a tender at night and rode without lights during the day. I think thats why he wired them directly to the battery. Problem is Idk what i have, if these are a couple cheap fog lights stuck in the front end or what.

Re: headlight questions
Those round lights are definitely not factory and are much smaller. The gap where the lights are housed is wide and not flush. You can pick up a used factory set and buy the blue hid bulbs if you want blue lights.

Re: headlight questions
Waking this thread back up because I'm pretty sure I can't use stock headlights. The bike has an r1 body kit from airtech and there is a much wider space between the lights. The openings are about 4 inches, the lights that are in the bike are fog lights meant for a car, I can only run one because they draw too much power. I searched eBay, Google and some other places for a universal 4 inch h4 round headlights but can't find anything. Anyone have sugestions?
