whilst it may mean he will not for a while or ever again (at least on a Ducati) win maybe.
He has proved himself without a shadow of a doubt as a rider. He is first & foremost an Italian with huge fan base (see the footage after the Mugello race where he came 6th and had to appear on the balcony (like a pope) to bless his fans who would have rioted had he not put in an appearance.)
He has taken time out to support his countries bike making industry ie DUCATI and frankly hats off to him for it that is patriotism. I do not see that kind of commitment from any American rider towards getting Hardly Davidson out of the days of steam into racing.
The only American I know who tried that was Erik Buell and his fan base seemed to be largely foreigners ............

I agree with George.
Besides I think they just need to work the problems out. I think thats what Rossi is good at. Developing the bikes into winners. I say give it some time.

Re: Rossi Ducati ??????
Casey Stoner rode that bike for several years and complained that Ducati was unable to correct the issues. Casey is a fantastic rider who now has a bike that he can put his faith in that it won't fail.
I would have loved to have seen the battle between Stoner and Rossi this year, but Rossi would have had to have been on a Yamaha at the very least. Unless something happens to Stoner outside of the MotoGP - he will not be stopped.

there are TWO basic types of racer, the guy who can get on anything and go fast as it will go.
And then guy who can do that and then analyze what is happening where and can actually impart that info to an engineer who can then think of the solution together with the rider.
Cal Carruthers and King Kenny could do it, Rossi & his English engineer Burgess can do it, Ago did it.
That is the difference with Stoner I have never heard of him finding a solution except ride thro it without improving it, a basically different skill set.

He said he was going to Duc last year.

I think the bike he will be racing next season will surprise a few.
Look at The Yamaha before he started developing it.

Screw em all, bring back the two strokes already.
The tech has gone light years ahead on fuel injected 'strokers. I am kinda pissy that Yamaha(of all entities) gave up on them.
FI sleds continue to get more badass every year, and two stroke outboards have cleaner emissions than their four stroke counterparts.
