Oil change with clutch replacement?
Just like the subject says, do you need to do an oil change when replacing the clutch friction plates and steels? My oil is relatively "new" (maybe 300 miles) and I'd rather not have to deal with the mess if I don't need to. Any suggestions?

Re: Oil change with clutch replacement?
It's going to be messy anyway. I've read stories of people doing clutches with the bike laying on it's left side BUT I would drain the oil anyway to avoid any surprises. The old saying is "No sense trying to avoid what you know has to be done."

"laying on it's left side"..??
On the kickstand is all you need. The clutch cover is about the oil level when on the kickstand. You'll get a drool of oil(about a half ounce) from taking the clutch cover off.
Blast the edges of the clutch cover down with bra-kleen to get any dirt/grit gone before you pull it, do it with clean replacement clutch plates, clean hands and tools, in a decently clean environment and i wouldn't sweat the oil change. Maybe just move the next interval up a bit

unless the steels have been "blued" by heat from clutch slip or are warped due to the afore mentioned you do not need to replace them as part of a standard clutch re-build.
How ever if you already have the new steels , keep the old ones and turn them into clutch holding tools with a 6" long bit of 1/2" diam rod welded on for the rest of us to buy

Re: Oil change with clutch replacement?
My clutch has been slipping at high rpm all season so I'm definitely needing some new steels. And I'll make sure to make clutch tools out of the old ones. I mean there's no reason for me to have all eight to myself right?yamaha_george wrote:

Re: Oil change with clutch replacement?
B,
just make sure to send me a plain plate I will weld it when it gets here, no sense paying you and then huge amounts on shipping for the extra bulk is there ?
One plate should fit the small package box at what 13.50USD ?
PM me when you are ready.
