Front brakes

Post by Ice Queen »

My hubby went to fit new pads to the front of my Baby. The pistons were all stuck, so he stripped them all down to get rid of all the crud behind the seals.

After he put it all back together, he could not get a lever back again. He tried everything, hold the calipers up, cable tying the lever back overnight, you name it he tried it (braided hoses remember).

Eventually admitted defeat, and decided Master cylinder was puffutted!!!! So the only M/C we had was off his old Exup. On it goes, Lo and behold, bled in 10 mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My front brake is now PHENOMINAL.

Much better than his. HAH! :Kick Now HE wants Blue Spots, sos his brakes will be as good as mine!!!!!!! lol

Mind you cant say much, he's just bought me new headers from Sandy Spares. More for him to polish :grinnod:

IQ,
Shame on you making the Hubby do all the work LoL.

I gather that he removed the pistons on the calipers & cleaned them, then re-assembled and fresh fluid put in place, but could not get the brakes to work still?

Since putting a new M/c in place cured the problem, I would say that some of the crud from his cleaning floated up and blocked the M/C holes.

If he strips the old M/c (circlip pliers required if memory serves) a quick wipe down of the bore & pump piston with alittle judicious blowing will clear the muck out. As to Blue Spots yes they are very nice.

You and Hubby riding tomorrow as the ACE Cafe' is holding a classic bike meet in the AM? I will either have my pal transport the brat by van and me on the FZR (if my back holds out ) or be slumming with the others in the van.

yg

The M/C was pumping fluid through, and he could get a sort of brake, but lever was nearly touching the twistgrip. He went through nearly 500ml of brake fluid and about about 4 days worth of swearing trying lol.

As for the Ace tomorrow, didn't know nowt about it and Hubby on call with work which makes it a bit awkward. We will make it another day tho, especially the Yamaha day later on in the year
