FZR Fuel pump

I was wondering if a YZF100 fuel pump would work on an FZR600 and are they the same? RRBike

Do you mean a YZF600 or a YZF1000? Either way, it will not be the same as a FZR600 fuel pump. But you can make the YZF600 pump work. Only problem is that you will need longer fuel line as the fuel inlet and outlet point the same direction unlike the FZR600 one and you will need to make a bracket to hold it in place as the YZF pump does not mount to the tank like the FZR one does. I have no idea about a YZF1000 pump though.

The 600 pumps flow enough fuel not to matter. I'm actually using my FZR600 pump to feed the YZF600 engine in my bike.

With the exception of the internal fuel pumps that came in the early YZF600 and the YZF750 and maybe the FZR 250 and 150, all the other ones were somewhat interchangeable. They flowed the same (roughly 7.5 psi if I recall) are they were two wire hook up. I think that partly answers As mentioned the big hurdle was mounting a pump from one bike to another one. Now if you want something more universal, any 2 wire, self regulating, 5.5 to 9 PSI fuel pump with work. You just have to wire it in, mount it and run your lines.

I recently had my fuel pump go bad (leaking diaphragm), and I used a universal Mr. Gasket pump (like this, http://www.mr-gasket.com/ProductDetails ... election=1 but it is 2-3.5 PSI max and 28GPH, model #28S)

I've done 300km on it with the new setup (I put in all new fuel line as well) and the bike runs great! Very smooth, and no issues at all through the entire rev-range. From the research I've done, you probably don't want more than around 3PSI for bike carbs (just think how delicate those little float valve springs are). The gallons per hour rating is the next most important, and 28GPH should be WAY more than the FZR will ever use.

I picked it up at a local auto supply for $45. This pump is also a newer-style with no diaphragms to ever leak. :-)

i just bought that same mr gasket pump to run on my bike cuz my fuel pump died and 418USD is waaaaay out of my price range. im just wondering is there any changes you had to make to the voltage and what not that runs the pump to decrease the flow from 28GPH??

any info on what you did to make yours run right would help tremendously,

Bear in mind that the pump is really only there to get the fuel in the bottom few inches of the tank up to the carb bowls; you aren't running the length of the car, nor pressurising an injector rail. The spec for the 3LN6 pump is only 10kPa, or 1.5 psi.

You could probably use a PWM regulator to reduce the flow and head of any aftermarket pump, saving power & reducing the risk of overwhelming your floats. We've seen the pics of what happens when a petcock is left open with a sticky float, and gravity allows the tank to drain. What happens with a marginal float when the pump is putting out 28gph @ 3 psi?! canofworms

Pulse-Width Modulation - basically turning the power on and off REALLY fast, reducing the net power sent to the motor being controlled and thus its operating speed. This is far more efficient than a series load resistor, and if done fast enough (millisec pulse rate) that the EM field in the motor's windings don't fully collapse, doesn't lead to the overheating that some attribute to PWM .

Of course, this only applies to rotary pumps, not diaphragm pumps where the pump DOES shut off completely at every pressure pulse.

Hi lads,

I've found this electronic fuel pump with 2.5 - 3 PSI pressure and 12GPH of fuel delivery.

Would it be any good for FZR600? are there any modifications needs to be done?

Would a bad feul pump keep my bike from firing up completely? I mean if it is only pumping up to 2 psi then would it be an issue at the initial firing of the engine? Or should I be rather looking towards coils and ignition box?

The 600 tank bottom extends below the carb bowls, so it needs a lift pump to fill the carbs once the level drops below about 1/3. A full tank doesn't need the pump.

Have you checked your fuel levels? Attach lengths of clear tubing to the drain port on the carb bowls, bend them upwards, then open the drain screws. Key on, kill switch on, let the pump go through its priming cycle.
