Speedometer Trouble

Post by pferreira »

So when I got my FZR1000 the speedometer was not working...
Got a new cable for it but did not fix the problem! Got the new piece for the wheel, but... still doesn't work! And what a pain it was to change since I don't have the right tools to lift the front of the bike.
Tested the speedometer by connecting the wheel end of the cable to my electric drill and it worked... so I know for a fact the speedometer itself is working, so it has to be a problem at the wheel.

Any ideas??
:headscratch:

when you pulled the speed gear from the wheel did you see the metal paw with the two tabs sticking out? when you installed the gear did you have to line it up with anything or did it just fall into place? if it fell into place i guess your missing that piece, go to bike bandit and look at there parts and youll see what i mean

Apsolos,

It just fell into place... So probably is missing that part! I'm going to have to fabricate some way of lifting the front of my bike... I can't afford to buy a lift right now... And I'll take a look, but I bet you are right, it's probably missing that part.

PF,
A cum-along-strap over a tall step ladder round the bars. Steady the whole thing with car wheel stands
take a look at:-

In that I used this method for the back end as you will see in the pictures (there were no lift bobbins on the back which is why this method & to add them for later).

With regard the speedo drive tagged washer on the wheel it may be there but "crushed" & not engaged, you have learned you lesson the hard way NEXT time you assemble the wheel bit add the cable , spin the wheel & see the inner coils spin.
